I woke up this morning, was thinking it was going to be another mix day but low and behold my email said otherwise, 70%, off a program that I always considered a luxury.
I downloaded the trial, without too much bother (I am using Nuendo 11, to mix), and had a couple of eLc issues, with the download assistant but cancel fixed that, installed, the trial was started automatically…
…next I see an application that I am not familiar with, loaded a .wav file, played it back. I was forward-thinking enough to turn on my UAD system, their wonderful plug-in’s had already been scanned, they are now VST3 so no worries.
One plug-in I use is the Multiband compressor because I use synth basses and they can be difficult to control, so while AI mastering online, can help, there is nothing like tapering off the low end in a mix but now with Wavelab, I can do this as a PROJECT, which is utterly fantastic!
I know I will be up for ongoing updates, but SB pricing is and has always been fair in my view, so here’s to learning a new application, to broaden my skills and knowledge.
It’s great, I use UAD’s Multiband compressor lightly on basses to mix (Nuendo 11) and then open up the resulting .wav file in WaveLab, and then apply more, filtering, as well since I can see the frequency spectrum of the mixed audio file.
Each time I render a mix from Nuendo, it is available in a WaveLab project, and I render again from there, very quick actually and convenient.
I went and purchased, the software. Annoyed of course I can’t remove the Trial license but glad I got the software, which in a way, means I will get the next few updates literally for “free”, since I saved so much on the up-front price.
It has made my workflow so much easier. I was considering using open-source software because some programs can use VST, but not ASIO unfortunately, which simply does not work, in a “professional” environment, i.e., WASAPI.
The rack-based approach to the mastering software, is great for consistency across projects, and there seems enough representations of the audio signal (there are 3rd party plug-ins, for the purpose, which don’t use much CPU).
