I’ve wanted this for years - a proper scripting language like python or lua in cubase! One that gives access to midi and audio tracks, sample editor, raw sample data, misc. track operations etc.
But I don’t think we’ll get this soon (or ever) - a powerful scripting language would make cubase/nuendo too expandable, meaning that Steinberg would lose control. Steinberg wont even allow us to change fonts in cubase, after all.
I don’t know if you’re still following, lukasbrooklyn but if you are, I would love to hear your thoughts on the below please.
After putting the free-g in insert slots 6 I’ve been trying to work out which set of faders I want to automate (free-g, or Cubase’s main faders), and which to use as the “automation-unencumbered, nudge up/down for quick volume change listens” set of faders you mentioned.
Though I think you said you are applying your automation to the free-g set of faders, I’m wondering if I would miss the ability to Link/Quick Link my automated faders using that approach. So I was thinking of actually going the other way, using the free-g faders as a way to audition volume changes without fighting with automation, and staying with the Cubase main faders for automation.
Did I understand you correctly that you are automating the free-g faders, not the Cubase faders? … and if so, do you miss the ability to link/Quick Link your automated faders?
Thanks for your thoughts!
(PS - I guess when I get to Cubase Pro 8 (probably around 8.5) and start working with VCA faders and Direct Outs I’ll want to be using Cubase’s main faders anyway …)
do you mean that you now write volume automation by ganging two or more faders and ride them in real time?
i personally don’t write automation that way but you’re right that by using the plugins, you’d lose this functionality (other daw’s allow for vst parameter chaining, maybe steinberg finally introduce this eventually, too).
OK thanks. I do adjust automation of multiple tracks together (drums, Bvox, Allvox, etc.), either by actually using group tracks themselves, or linking (I guess that is probably the better way, is what I think I have learned from the VCA discussions on the forum).
