Zoom in timeline lag

Zooming in the timeline has a has a lag the first time you use it for a position in a song. If you try zooming from approximately the same position again it works as expected.

To reproduce:

  1. Zoom out in a project that is more than 2 minutes long so you can see the whole project. The project can be empty.
  2. Zoom in really slow from the timeline at a random location
  3. Result: There is a long delay befor zooming starts.
  4. Try zooming again from the same location.
  5. Result: zooming starts immediately.
  6. Zoom out.
  7. Try zooming from a new location a minute from the previous (or more)
  8. Result: The same lag the first time.

For the love of god, please can someone tell me how to fix this issue? I have had the exact same problem on every version of cubase after 6. Before Cubase 6 it was totally fine.
Can anyone help?

Which system? Mac or Windows? This forum never tells you because they do not make a difference but there is a huge in means of the application <> OS interaction.

I’m on Mac and I have had this issue in every version of Cubase since 7.
Every few months I come take a peek to see if there is a fix.
