Maybe I have not figured it out yet, and I have tried all the options here:
But it would be dang nice to have the zoom capability that Bitwig 6 has. Just combine the middle click pan with the timeline horizontal zoom anywhere in the project or editor windows.
If you hold control in windows or command in Mac + use the mouse wheel to zoom at the cursor position
That is close, but yes, I do that all the time. I am saying combine both in one action, not use a modifier key and not incremental with the ctrl key. You can literally zoom around faster.
Sorry, I don’t understand. I’ve never used bitwig
It’s taking exactly wht Cubase already does, but without the need for ctrl, so you are panning and zooming at the same time in a very smooth fashion with only the middle mouse button. left and right mouse movement to go left and right, and up and down to zoom in and out. It’s very fluid and quicker to move around.
So how do you go up and down in Bitwig?
The same… with the mouse, the middle button scroll over the project window(or editor).
I honestly don’t use Bitwig much anymore…just for testing and migrating old projects, but when I do open it, I’ve noticed in v6, the middle scroll movement seems smoother than v5 which is what I used the most before fully moving over to Cubase about a year ago.
But just having an option to combine the pan and zoom into one movement and then also having them behave different than the edit window. Having pan+zoom in the main window, and then separate options for the edit window…just for flexibility.
Since that behaviour is already attached to zooming with the timeline ruler option, just combine them with no ctrl.
You made clear your feature request. However, something doesn’t add up here. Middle mouse button + up/down can either zoom or scroll but certainly not both at the same time.
So, you would like to sacrifice the up/down scrolling for the zoom.
Furthermore you would like to have different middle mouse button behavior depending on whether you are in an editor or in the project view.
Currently the middle mouse button allows for dragging the windows content across the screen. That needs to be changed, too.
Did I summarize it correctly?
No…sorry…maybe I did not make this clear.
No sacrificing. The difference is whether the middle button is clicked/held, and just scrolling.
Scrolling still for just up/down. Click HOLD for pan/zoom
Along the same lines, I would like to use the mouse wheel with no aux. key required to scroll right/left. I scroll L/R dozens of times for every time I need to scroll up/down.
Please, Steinberg, give us the ability to construct our individual preferences in this area. It would promote efficiency if a user could make their most-used action free of additional key-press requirements, whatever that user’s most-used action happens to be.
I have a macro to zoom in vertically and horizontally at same time but with 3 zooming lanes each so it zooms x3.
Same for zoom out, I handle them with 2 key commands. Super fast and precise.
