Zoom view page height

One of the great features I miss from Sibelius is to quickly type “VZMPH” to View - Zoom - Page Height, which automatically filled my entire screen with the full score, so that I could see all of the staves, and no empty space above or below.

Any equivalent of that in Dorico? I keep pressing Z and X to zoom in and out, but it’s jumpy and unstable, and either the score fills 60% of the screen, or it’s too zoomed in…

  1. In Preferences > Key Commands > View, you can assign a keyboard shortcut to Page Height. The quick way of finding it is to type hei in the Search field.
    (I’m on a Mac and have assigned ctrl-z to that command)

  2. You could also try pressing the J key to bring up the jump bar and then type zph. That should display Zoom Page Height and Zoom Page Width. If Zoom Page Height is not highlighted press Up-Arrow or Down-Arrow (as applicable) to select it and then press Enter.

It appears that Zoom Page Height does not work in Galley view. You could try assigning a keyboard shortcut to Custom Zoom… . That will bring up a small dialog where you enter the Zoom level that you want. You will probably need to experiment with different values to find one which is suitable.
My guess as to why Zoom Page Height does not work in Galley view is that Galley view is a continuous scroll view and is not based on page dimensions. Many users prefer inputting notation in Galley view because they find it to be quicker by virtue of it greatly reducing the amount of layout information which is taken into consideration.

Right – as you may know, in Sibelius “View Zoom Page Height” works in Galley View, too, automatically resizing whatever number of staves to fit the screen. It’s so useful, since I jump around different screen sizes (vertically-tilted large monitor, laptop screen, iPad second monitor, etc.) – and of course different scores have different number of staves, leading to different levels of zoom.

Using CMD/CTRL - and CMD/CTRL + key combinations is fairly easy and simple to decrease and increase zoom. One can continue to hold these key combinations in Galley or Page view and the zoom function will continue to decrease or increase the page height as desired. I don’t think there is a single key command to do this in Galley mode but maybe others know much better than I do.

Both pairs of shortcut keys work: Z/X and Ctrl/Cmd with + or -
