What’s In A Name?

Let me introduce myself. I’m Sherman Barry Keene. Before I turned 30 I went by my middle name: Barry Keene. When I started at Heider’s I was known as Sherman Keene. To honor the loss of my idol—the ethic composer John Barry—I now call myself Sherman Barry.

My Musical History

I played tenor guitar and cello with The Mothers Of Invention
I played bass and was a vocalist in Spirit

I taught basic, intermediate and advanced sound engineering at Wally Heider Recording Studios, Hollywood. My job included teaching the recordists to be full sound engineers and teaching visiting engineers how our first-of-its-kind Necam moving fader recording console worked. At my recommendation, one of my students was pulled out of my training classes to become the new sound engineer for The Rolling Stones. Michael hit home runs for The Stones so they took him away and out on the road with them.

I was the Dean Of Students at the Hollywood School Of Recording

I taught robotics programming and maintenance as the Manager of Training & Documentation at Seiko Instruments, USA in Torrance, CA.

I taught all AlphaGraphics designers in person and through the huge training library I created at their AlphaLink website

I have presented my sound engineering training course internationally

I was the recording engineer for Frank Zappa (studio and concert sound)

The Byrds

Ike & Tina

The Turtles

Alice Cooper

I currently live on a 5 acre Ironwood Forest nature preserve in Marana, Arizona. I record using Cubase Pro 11 with Groove Agent 5
