I’m a composer of works for the classical guitar and occasional performer of the same. Composing became an important part of my existence in 2007 long after studying guitar performance at the Auckland University School of Music. Despite some limited training in composing methods, I consider myself mostly self taught. My composing efforts are usually self driven, based on instinct rather than adhering strictly to rules and crafted specially to suit the classical guitar. I like to have a story, idea or concept in mind before I start a composition, rather than creating music purely for music’s sake. A dream is to be able to improvise on the guitar freely and with confidence to an audience. However, it’s fair to say I’m a slow-motion improviser and trained classically, am better when reading from the score!
