2.0.29 Global Stacks Muted on Song Change

I know this was mentioned somewhere but can’t find the topic.

Global Stacks are being muted when changing to next song. Makes talking to the audience a challenge…

@ciro1983811 maybe? then appeared its when our songs containing DMX info and song change takes longer…

I’m not sure if that is in connection with newly introduced micro global fade out/in at song changes, that is programmed to be very tiny, but when VL hesitates to change… maybe it takes unlikely longer. @musicullum maybe can help us to see clearly if that micro global fade I/O can least longer if song change itself leasts longer?

Ah yes - I noticed a “hesitation” in the transport at the end of the DMX track.

Yes, can confirm it’s dmx tracks loading that freezes global stacks, and in minor way also having multiple video track (but only a microseconds glitch).

Sunday played a gig without dmx tracks completely erased from the project (light service was managing lights) and talking at song changes was ok.

More in general, dmx engine performance is … “funny” , i have only 1 dmx track from start to finish with data in only 5 channels , and this already cause a 2-3 seconds loading time for the song…

Ciao!

I don’t know if software tries to preload all’ data points in memory at the beginning, but maybe a buffer “asio like” and loading on the go … could Speed up loading time @Spork ?

Ciao!

No such thing. We only introduced fades when audio inserts are switched.

If Preload or Preload Parts is applied, it does pretty much that and loading times should be as small as possible.
But we are looking into all of this, especially bulks of DMX data.

Dear @musicullum I mean this addition of Yours, that I thought it’s different from “inserts switching micro fade”.

Can this not be longer then expected if VL strugles to step on next song then? Just thinking not pointing to…

Ah, true, forgot that one.
No, these fades are carried out by the audio process and initiated by setting a flag, so this has no impact on anything at all. As said, we’re looking into all possible obstacles.

Hi,

I just found this thread as I’m facing the same problem… I used to think that Global Stacks were fully independent from songs, but they are muted a few seconds each time a song is loaded. I have no DMX tracks.

Using Global Stacks for vocals and guitars, it’s a bit annoying to bear these silences when you keep on playing between songs.

Do I miss something?

Hi @Jihem , yes we use Global Stacks and facing with this issue but a post from today:

Thanks Felician, you reassure me, I’m not doing anything wrong :slightly_smiling_face:

Until a solution is found, I am going to change my configuration and keep vocals and guitar processed outside VL. VoiceLive 3 X will still be my friend!

I bit the bullet and changed to an X32 Rack on USB with the mike routed directly rather than through a stack.

@Jihem I’m experimenting with Waves Harmony inside of VL as a replacement for my Vocalist Live Pro, using a bus send from the X32. I had it working with my old config (UMC1820) as a test and it sounds promising.

… not going to mark this as a solution because it’s more of a workaround

That’s exactly my journey! My 6U rack is filled with:

  1. Yamaha MOTIF-RACK ES for sound module
  2. MOTU 828es as a mixer
  3. Digitech Vocalist Live Pro
  4. Digitech GSP1101 (guitar preamp & FX)
  5. Presonus Digimax FS for extra inputs
  6. Miditemp MSX as MIDI / Audio player & Midi patchbay / processor

Everything is controlled by a Behringer FCB1010 pedalboard with a Wino2 chip.

Perfect, but heavy!

Two years ago, I discovered VST Live and knew it was the perfect replacement for all this… Some day!

The configuration I’m setting up these days is made of VL on a Surface Pro 8 connected to a Yamaha MOXF8 workstation. My microphone and my guitar are plugged into the L and R audio input of the MOXF, then feed two Global Stacks. The vocal one has a Waves Vocal Harmony inserted (voices triggered by a track via a Virtual Midi port), plus some effects (comp, EQ, delay, reverb) and the Guitar one holds a Guitar Rig 7 instance.

The FCB1010 is programmed to call any Set list, any Song, controls play, pause and the Next Part action, and controls GR7 patches, volume and Wah.

The next big step will be using only VST instruments instead of the MOXF, with a more powerful mini PC that it a Beelink GR7.

Rate my setup

This Global Stack muted issue will probably lead me to use a Tascam Model 12 as a mixer.

Have a good night!

Wow, nice rig!

It looks we are on parallel paths :grinning:

One 3U rack (4,5kg), mounted from both sides:

  • Wireless Intrument receiver x2
  • Wireless in-ear
  • Audio-interface (that is currently under further dev)
  • 230V socket
  • 1u drawer (MIDI foot switch, mic, bodypack, etc)
  • LAPTOP with VL (that does everithing)

That is already way to much of equipment to carry

For lights:

  • Alu case (Microtik wireless + ArtNet node on a plain, cables, psu, etc)
  • 6db tube lights

Well if we’re playing “mines bigger/better/whatever than yours”…. (Kidding - horses for courses :grinning:)

4U rack containing X32 rack, IEM, radio mike. Not that heavy, surprisingly.
SL 88 master keyboard and a HydraSynth
Laptop with VL doing the tracks, MIDI control and harmonies (Wave Harmony), Kontakt, Korg Collection and a few others. I’m now sending stems from VL and mixing in the X32 using the X32 app - VL will also control the mixer (eventually). Start/stop songs directly on VL as the laptop is close enough for the lyrics to be seen although I prefer Live Mods when it works.
Artnet DMX from VL controlling 4 moving heads and pars.
Wireless MIDI (CME widi) and wireless network.
