some older vst’s i use r not compatible, as well as compatibility for opening older projects that use non compatible vst64 plugs. I do mostly mixing/tracking so no real need for the extra memory of the 64bit.
Well… that does it for -my- technical acumen. I guess I wonder about interactions between the SSD and the HD. I’ve heard anecdotes from Adobe users re. large projects that actually run faster after disabling the SSD… turns out there is some issue where the ‘caching’ of the SATA controller between the HD and the SSD conflict.
What do I know. Just surprised. C7 really just seems like C6 with a new coat o’ paint. But then, I never ran Cubase 32.

Thanks for the responses above! For some reason, I no longer get email notification when subscribing to threads on this forum (despite the fact that I have not changed any account settings).
Yep, most of the projects began in 6.5, though the difference in load/close times is present even when starting a new project from C7. I really don’t want to go through the hassle of an uninstall/reinstall unless I have no choice.
Both on here (and in KVR and Gearslutz) I am seeing other people experiencing the same problem. I have still not heard back from Steinberg Support on this. I would probably do well to work in 6.5 until this is resolved. Sure does feel solid by comparison.
Guys! I strongly recommend all those who experience such long times opening/closing projects, slow preferences menu browsing, to uninstall 7.0.2, cleaning all data on your HDD and registry and make clean install for Cubase 7.0. Then update to 7.0.2. Like I did 30 minutes ago. Problem fixed for me.
Ugh…
But thanks for the tip. I’ll give it a try.
I deinstalled everything related to Cubase and all versions on my system. Deleted all folders etc. Reinstalled 7.0, and was pleasantly surprised. Noticeably faster, opening, closing, closing device setup. Then I installed 7.0.2, well back to long load times again. The loading popup slowly scrolls across, loading all channels 1 by one then loading mixconsole all inputs and outputs one by one. Again I wonder what was changed from 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 and 7.0.2.
Seems I may have figured why I experience the slow down of loading projects with 7.0.1 and 7.0.2. The more vst plugins you have the slower the load. Strange that in 7.0.0 the number of plugins does not have an effect. I changed the name of the vstplugins folder, and 7.0.2 loaded almost immediately. I added plugin folders one at a time and slower and slower it would load. Now I do have a huge amount of plugins, like alot. I’ve been using Cubase since the 90’s and have amassed a huge collection over the years. Guess it’s telling me it’s time to do some housekeeping.
it’s sounds strange, because i’m using a lot of vsts (UAD, Softube, Slate, Waves)… and it works fast.
HMMM, that is strange. I see it load slow when no vst’s are even in the project or a new empty project is started. I removed half of the plugins from the plugins folder and it speeds up. When I say alot of plugins I mean like alot present in the vstplugins folder, several hundred at least. 7.0.1 on up must be looking at the vst plugins that are installed when the project or even an empty project is started.
Interesting. Reinstalling all traces of Cubase is exactly what I do not want to do, and will be my last resort. And I foresee keeping 6.5 alive for the foreseeable future - still not sure about C7, but I do want a version that works as it should. No harm in trying to remove VSTs to see what happens. It’s been close to 2 weeks since I contacted Helge and no word from Tech support.
I’m not seeing a general slow-down in Cubase load times… both Cubase 7 and projects in general load up just fine, including with lots of plugins. However, I did notice one plugin give me a strange intermittent delay – AAS Ultra Analog x64 slows things down a bit on first loading, then everything returns to normal, which really surprised me. Never seen that before. Still works fine, but this, and other posts here, lead me to believe there may be some plugin-related issues for Cubase 7. Anyone else have AAS Ultra Analog and can confirm a C7 load delay with specific plugins?
Hi all
not sure if im qualified to be here as i am still working with Q bass 5. I would say I have never had a 2 minute loading time, but would say the more tracks you use and the more VSTs you use the longer your DAW will take to open and this may go for all DAWs. it will not change.
What I find is that the more midi tracks you use the bigger the load on CPU, I do not believe you should be mixing down from midi anyway, you should get all your midi recordings into audio as soon as possible once its on audio it takes less CPU load or power to open and run your project and makes your project more stable and smooth,
your midi recordings should be only a sketch of what you plan to do and not the main track or mix, your editing and mastering should always be done in audio… audio means its all on the HDD that means no CPU or very little CPU usage.
VSTs can have a great effect on DAWs load time Omnisphere, Kontact, Komplete and many more are a massive load and should be taken into account, what I normally do is let my Computer warm up and sit there for about ten minutes before I start work or mixing I find opening Q bass is much more smoother and snappy as well as opening projects.
in all I think it is a matter of how our CPU is working with what different changes we have made to our OS, new software will give your system different responses.
These are just thoughts .
I agree on all your past posts. What I see is even starting a new project from scratch with no plugins, 24 audio tracks, no instruments, no audio, zilch nothing but empty tracks, the more vst inputs and outputs (and I have alot, 16 ins and 48 outs) you have connected of course make the load time longer and also with 7.0.1 and 7.0.2 if you have alot of plugins installed as in present in the vstplugins folder, but not in use in the project, the load times increase with the number of plugins present in the vstplugins folder. I am a plugin junkie, I admit it… If i remove half of the plugins from the plugins folder with 7.0.1 or 7.0.2 the load time is twice as fast then if all the plugins are present in the vstpluins folder. And this is for starting a new project from scratch, select template, choose working folder etc. Interestingly, if I use 7.0 the number of plugins present in the vstplugins folder does not effect the load times.
same problems here! I tried starting in safe mode without the preferences and still slow loading of projects.
Sounds like the program is scanning the plugin folder differently from the way it did in version 7. If that worked better perhaps we should revert to that method?
Obviously there is a new scanning engine that treats VST 2.4 plugins differently to legacy versions.
I am having very slow load times and close times and also mix down times…I can put the same project into 6.5 and it loads in under a 1min mixes down very fast and when I close the window it closes stright away the same project in 7.02 takes nearly 3mins to load mixes down very slow and when I close 7.02 I get the Blue Screen Of Death What ever is going on they need to get it fixed and fast. I am having to work back in 6.5 as 7.02 is just to unstable
I didn’t see this as being addressed in 7.03, i could have overlooked it though, anyone found a workaround?
No work around here, I’m afraid.
I am too having this problem. It can take minutes from when I press to open a project, until the project actually opens. Never had this issue in 6.5 though.
