2.2.63 Writing Midi Problems

Hi, i noticed two problems on Midi Tracks in version 2.2.63 (sometimes it happened also in previous versions)

  1. Playing Midi track after writing notes: when I write new Midi notes and press ‘play’, sometimes midi notes freeze or get stuck.
  2. Deleting midi notes: when I write a midi note and then delete it, the note will be played.

Sometimes the problems disappear after resrarting VL2. In some cases also a preload helps. Even a backup of the project didn’t solve the problem.

I’m using midi to trigger scenes in daslight. These problems have been in version 1.x long time ago. So the light scenes stay ON, even if the Midi note ended (settings in daslight are alright), and light scenes get triggered from deleted notes…

Is there someone else having these problems with midi tracks?

Cheers, Pat

Edit: 3. Even if all midi notes have ended, and I start the track where NO midi note exists, some of the ‘older’ notes will Play. This destroys my whole light show.

@VL2-Team, which version is ‘safe’ for midi and is it possible to use an older version of VL2? Or will this cause other problems with my Project? Thanks for your help! :victory_hand:t2::folded_hands:t4:

Cannot reproduce based on your description.

It would be good if you could provide some step-by-step repro so we can check what might go wrong, thanks.

Hi @musicullum thanks for your reply. Since I’m on vacation now, i can’t do screenshots, but I try to describe, how it happens.

1. I open my project and add a midi track to a song routed directly in the track to ‘Midi Out 4’ (on my miditech Midiface 4x4). I don’t use a layer for it (should I?)

2. I set Midi channel for this track to CH14

3. I draw an empty midi track over the whole song

4. I start writing midi (via mouse) notes in this track

Each Midi note triggers one scene in daslight4 on a second PC. It worked without Problems since about 2 years. Even if more than 5 midi notes trigger 5 scenes in daslight at the same time.

5. While drawing the notes, I often Play and pause the song to see if the scenes are right.

6. After a short time (maybe 5-10 minutes) working like that the issues appear.

After restarting VL2 I play the songs without Problems. As soon as I do some improvements in an existing midi track, the problems appear again. Also deleted notes sometimes play. Once the problem appears, it doesn’ disappear on it’s own. Only restarting VL2 helps.

I will try out, if the same behaviour exists in a new project, when I’m home in one week.:folded_hands:t4::victory_hand:t2:

Hi @musicullum,

I could reproduce the problem in a new project with just 1 Midi track

  1. New project
  2. Connections - Midi Outputs - Create one Output called “ds”
  3. Create Midi Track with Output “ds” and Midi Channel 14
  4. Draw many Midi notes, press play+pause several times, delete some midi notes and draw some more.
  5. After 15 seconds radomly drawing and deleting midi notes, the notes trigger my daslight scenes, but some of them don’t stop even if the note has ended. The notes ‘freeze’ until I pause the song. Same issue as in my older project.
  6. After restarting VL2 the issue disappears first, but only for some minutes. I hope in this Video you can see what I mean. VL2 Midi track on the left, daslight on the right. Each note triggers one daslight scene as long as the note holds. It worked some times, but after editing the track maybe 30 times, in this case one note stucks. It is not always necessary to edit the midi track, sometimes this appears after playing and pausing the Song.

Does it also disappear when you leave the MIDI Editor and select a different track?
