2.2.72 Strange MIDI track behavior upon moving MIDI track

Seems that some people on this forum have become beta testers.

MIDI Track displays strange behavior when moving multiple selected cuts.

Is this program even usable?

Personally, my opinion is that the midi track editor is completely unusable. There have been many complaints, and after many months of complaints, almost nothing has been done. If you want to experience the ultimate form of masochism and time-wasting, then the midi editor is the place for you. After four months of trying to defeat it, I gave up using it and am now using Cubase instead, transferring the results to audio tracks since there is no quick and reliable way to transfer midi tracks.

(I apologize for my harsh opinion, but I spent an incredible amount of time trying to do things in this program that can be done in a few minutes in any other program)

That was the idea from the beginning. The MIDI editor in VST Live is an add-on for quickly fixing simple issues, not usually found in a live app. We didn’t expect to be dissed for that. Please be specific about what does not work for you, and omit general negative claims.

I’m not talking about any complex cases, I’m referring to the most essential basic functions that are either missing or exist but work in a very original way or simply don’t work. This was written several months ago but was ignored. (v.81)

  1. Duplicating fragments, which is currently impossible to use fully (the selection doesn’t shift).
  2. Aligning the back of the selected fragment according to the grid, moving individual notes. (You have to move one note at a time)
  3. The velocity alignment of selected notes on the line continues to skip notes.
  4. The destruction of information when gluing fragments of midi tracks, and the information is not restored by “undo”
  5. The first notes in the track are not played.
  6. There is no option for transposition.
  7. There is no quick way to remove complete duplicate notes from the editor.

Even this set is enough to make it impossible to work with the midi editor due to the hellish loss of time.

It turns out that it’s easier to create a midi track in another editor, such as Cubase, and drag it into VST Live, preferably in an audio track, because it’s guaranteed to work, while a midi track may be destroyed during the process of gluing or alignment, requiring manual adjustments. Each of these steps results in a significant loss of time due to the need for recovery whenever the mouse is moved inaccurately, and each attempt to fix the situation only creates new problems.

These are significant things, just like the absence of a windshield wiper or a punctured tire can make even the coolest and best car go nowhere, or when the steering wheel doesn’t keep the car on a straight path and the driver can’t figure out where the car is going, forcing them to make a lot of movements just to keep the car on a straight path, leading them to consider taking a bus instead.

What do you mean by “fragments”?

The blocks in the Tracks view are called events (Cubase term), or clips.

But as we speak of MIDI Editor, it could be a block of selected events?

If so:

What do you mean by “doesn’t shift”, what does not “shift”?

2 also unclear what you mean. Moving blocks of selected notes works as intented, no matter which note is clicked.

3 Note that only velocities of selected notes follow the line tool.

4 pls explain. If fragmenst are not clips, it makes no senes, otherwise some of the other points are unclear too.

5 pls provide an example/step-step-step repro.

6 just select all and move notes. Also track hast transpose option

7 use “Edit/Reduce”

We found some possibly related issue and fixed it, pls try again with the next version.

Thank for Ctrl+D end aligning the end of the notes

Some issues…

It is not available from the editor, and there is no menu. I need to exit the editor, and only then will the menu be available. After entering the editor, I need to look for the editing location.

When I move the notes with the mouse, it doesn’t just shift them vertically, but also horizontally. It’s great if the notes are aligned with the grid, but if they’re not, it becomes challenging to get them in the right place. I need to be able to move the selected notes vertically using the arrow keys on my keyboard (like in the Cubase), so that their horizontal position doesn’t shift. Similarly, I need to be able to move the notes horizontally by the amount of the grid.

Main menu “Edit”.

The main menu is always available. What do you mean?

Ok. I need to exit the window where I am working with the material and where the action is taking place, or minimize it, and then access the menu in another window where I do not see my selected notes, while the window where I was working is minimized. If the window was previously maximized, I need to find a way to access the menu.
Why not create a button in the editor’s menu?

ok, we’ll check.
