3 trombones + tuba condensed to two staves with proper labeling

Hi all,

I want to get a result like below, with “Trombone” label in between two staves, with Trombones 1&2 on top, and Trombone 3 and Tuba on bottom.

Currently, my staff looks like this though:

How can I get the “Tbn.” text to be in the middle, and the “3+Tba.” on bottom? ALSO how can I selectively add the “con sord.” text to the staff label (the score shown above is Schoenberg Op. 16, and its staff labels show “con sord.” when the mute is still active on the instrument, to alleviate the burden of flipping many pages to confirm if mutes are on or off).

If the full solution is not possible, is a partial one possible?

I think a partial fix could be to experiment with Player Groups:

Not to say you shouldn’t be able to do what you want. But making 3 and Tuba subsets of a Trombone group doesn’t make sense to me (which is how I would interpret what you seem to be asking for).

I myself have condensed Bass Tbn and Tuba on a single staff, but they appeared as in your second staff set.

You might have to import a png or similar of your desired text into a graphic box and place it over the current staff labels in Engrave mode.

The grouping of Trombone III and Tuba happens often in classic scores. The one I posted in the original post is Schoenberg Op. 16, and here is just one other example from Ravel’s classic Daphnis & Chloe Suite No. 2:

Sure, but the Tbn and Tuba are listed in sequence.
My understanding was that you wished something along the lines of
trbGrp

which did not strike me as logical.

Oh, no, I don’t want Tuba under a Trombone group header. I just want something like the two examples I showed.

@seaguin your Schönberg and Ravel example are very different from one another. I don’t understand what you desire exactly…

Dorico default works quite well…

Ah sorry yes I do want something like the Schoenberg example (from the original post). Ignore my followup as it was just to show the common grouping of Trombone 3 + Tuba. Yes Derrek was right that this implies the Tuba is part of a Trombone group, but given the context of the 3 trombones + 1 tuba, this is okay to me, compared to the isolated example of Trombone 3 + Tuba he posted above.
