Just updated to 6.2; suddenly Dorico doesn’t recognise my midi keyboard (keystation 88) and refuses to allow me to use it for input? It also won’t allow me to check its box in the preferences/play/midi input devices menu. Weirdly. it will play the sounds, but not allow input? And yes, I’ve turned it off and on…and two complete re-installs? I’m on Win 11.
Connect the keyboard before starting Dorico. If that doesn’t help, go to Audio MIDI setup on your computer.
yup - always. Thanks, but and I’m on win 11 (should have said to start with ), so not a MAC.. Everything looks kosher-(ish) there.
Have you rebooted your computer?
Hi @kevinflanagan , please go to the Dorico Preferences dialogue, choose the Play tab and scroll all the way down and expand the Advance Options.
What is the state of the option “Use WinRTMIDI”? What if you toggle that value and restart Dorico? Any better?
Thanks Ulf;
I unchecked and then checked it again with a restart each time. Things have started working again, although I still can’t check/uncheck the preferences/play/midi input devices menu? Still, I can live with that for the moment.
big thanks.

Hi Kevin, what if you uncheck the WinRT-MIDI option, apply and restart Dorico, if you then go to the MIDI Input Devices menu, can you then toggle it?
I’m having the same problem with two devices.
- Desktop PC: Komplete Kontrol connected directly to the computer via USB.
- Laptop: Komplete Kontrol via a MIDI-to-USB adapter.
- Laptop: Kawai digital piano, also connected via a (different) MIDI-to-USB adapter.
Dorico 6.2 isn’t receiving the keystrokes on any of them.
Win-RT is enabled—I’ve restarted several times with and without Win-RT.
The MIDI input devices are displayed as selected “only” with a gray border; there is no blue checkmark (if that matters).
Hi - Same with me, although after a few enable/disable/restarts, my keyboard starting inputing again, though I’m not sure why. What I have noticed since the update is that all my shortcuts and mouse selections have gotten very flakey: things like spacebar start/stop, selecting items with the mouse, unwanted input selections, etc. It all seems a bit random, and there seems to be a lot of latency involved? Anybody else seing this?
Hi @kevinflanagan , have you tried ticking in the Dorico-Preferences the option to filter out MIDI Control Change message? Does that do mitigate your problem?
Cheers,
Ulf
Ulf helped me out: The solution is that the gray border means “Off.” The indicator for the MIDI input device is barely visible (very dark gray on a black background), and in my case, WinRT had to be turned off in the advanced settings.
Thanks again
Regarding the odd colouring, Daniel just told me:
“Indeed, this has changed due to some theming changes in Qt 6.10, on Windows only. We’re addressing this in the forthcoming 6.2.10 update.”
