Trying to make a 6/4 3/2 time signature: added an empty bar, changed note spacing, pulled the barline over. But when I highlight the bar line and hit DELETE, nothing happens. I can delete any other bar line in the piece this way. What can I do? (And why is there no invisible bar line option in the palette options?) I also would like the 6/4 and 3/2 little closer together, but note spacing does not go below 0.

You could use an interchangeable Time Signature:
Enter 6/4 - 3/2 in the popover (with spaces before and after the -)
And in Engraving Options:
And set the gap here:

Hi @rayates56, probably you want to create an Interchangeable time signature. And to delete the (unnecessary) barline try deleting the 3/2 and then the barline itself.

Thank you, Charles and Christian. When I follow those instructions, the Engraving Options for the separator have no effect and a dash is used regardless of what I select (and Apply)
The Engraving Option is the general setting, while the button in the properties panel allows to override it. So I’m not sure what’s happening on your end.
It should anyway work (regardless of the Engraving Option) if you select the time signature and choose this:
