A Book Layout of Pieces with Different Layout Options

I’m asking a lot of questions, and I’ve tried different things to see if I can figure this one out.

I mostly lay out collections of standard repertoire and/or supplemental graded music for piano. I like having all the pieces in the same book layout for pagination reasons; however, depending on the style of each piece, I need to change the layout options for each one (note spacing, casting off, and ideal gaps). What is the best approach for this without having to use the note spacing change in the engraving menu and manual spacing in engraving mode?

I’m not sure why you would seek to avoid the very tools designed for what you seem to want to do.

I think it would be really useful to see a Flow for which you needed different Ideal Gaps. Don’t forget that they are essentially the smallest gaps before justification is applied.

I frequently use the Note Spacing Change tool at the start of each flow, to ‘fit’ the music to the end of the last page. I’ve given it a shortcut, so it’s easy as pie.

Using Note Spacing Change is fine, but it seems like some of the layout options could really be flow options, since they are global for each piece. Or maybe at least note spacing could be in notation options. I don’t know—I’m scripting. Thanks for the feedback, though!

Note spacing changes set from the Engrave menu revert to the default set for the layout at the end of each flow.

Good to know. Thanks Derrek! By the way, you wouldn’t happen to be Derrek Richard, would you?

Nope, I’m not.

In due course we do plan to add more “change” objects to allow things like casting off, vertical spacing, etc. to be changed from a certain point in a layout, but I can’t say for sure when we will get to this kind of thing.
