Ableton Link Sync With Cubase

That would be a great addon. Come on Steinberg!

Yes please. I would use this.

It would be really great if we heard from Steinberg developers on this topic.
Can we still hope or is it perhaps too technically complex to implement?
Or are there licensing issues?
Or does Steinberg not want to take over anything from the competition out of principle?
If anyone finds out anything, I would be happy if it were posted here.

Ableton Link = Purchased Cubase Pro Upgrade

I’ve been using multiple programs for years and Ableton Link took away so much frustration.

whats wrong with steinberg??? why is this function not available,

absolute joke if you ask me. not upgrading until i get more info on this and the longer this goes the more i use ableton on its own, the less i use cubase… sad times for them. rewire was such a good thing and for no replacement to workaround is quite mad

I think I’ll soon no longer know how Cubase works. I haven’t used this in so long. For the way I make music (often with several musicians with different computers or iPads or MASCHINE’S) I need technology that synchronizes the different devices. I’ve had by far the best experiences with Ableton Link. That’s why I also use Ableton Live on the main computer into which the audio or sometimes MIDI is streamed from the various devices (I often use the Blue Cat Audio Connector for this).
I would actually much rather use Cubase for this, e.g. because of the beautiful mixer, the great MIDI editing and the better audio editing but…

I was scouring the Internet for a solution and I found this device.
I’m going to order it and give it a whirl. It might be the answer we’ve been looking for!

Thank you for the post, I know that device.
But that’s not the solution for me.
Unfortunately, this cannot replace "the missing link” in Cubase.

How hard can it be ? I mean I have a Push2 I love it and i need Cubase as well. All I need is to keep them in sync…

This thread sadly highlights what I believe will be the things that become the ultimate downfall of cubase in the future once the OG’s are no more. Likely to studio 1 unfortunately.
As has been said here. NO ABLETON LINK
Gap in audio loading vst’s
oh, again No Ableton link. Cmon even pro tools has this…hell even cubisis lol
No updated midi inserts. Pro tools again pioneering in this area as of a few weeks ago.
No live looping (if you don’t allow Ableton link then this is needed)
Not updating beat designer.
No real modulation (again with link you can save that issue)

+1 Ableton Link for Cubase.
I would have thought a DAW would implement any feature to keep up or out-do other DAW’s. Maybe the amount of work/coding involved is prohibitive.

+1 Ableton Link for Cubase.
I recently got Cubase and was very disappointed to hear that it does not support Ableton Link. I use Ableton for live performance and generative composition. To be able to combine that with Cubase would make a powerfully creative environment.

What’s strange, unique, and frustrating about all this is that Ableton Live can function like an instrument. It can be performed and played. Which is a major reason why Ableton Link can be so important. I do wonder if Steinberg would ever consider this feature.
I’ve tried to address this issue with attempting to sync the Push3 with Cubase. I haven’t resolved it yet. Almost though.

Has anyone perhaps heard anything from Steinberg on this topic?
I would be very interested to know whether the Seinberg team is considering implementing Ableton Link and if so, what the timeline is. Until then, I’ll stick with my old Cubase version, which I hardly use anymore, and will work even more with the Arrangement View in Ableton.
But since Cubase also has a lot of great advantages (Midi Editor,…) I’m still hoping for Ableton Link!

Steinberg has never divulged upcoming features or timelines. I’m afraid your only option is to sync the two programs by other means or keep your fingers crossed and wait patiently.

To elaborate further, I’ve been able to send MIDI data from Cubase in order to play clips or notes in the Push 3. What I need to test or figure out is how to maybe map a note to trigger the play button on the Push 3 so that it plays when Cubase plays. This unfortunately won’t sync the clock but I could have both projects at the same tempo.

Anyway, I’m thinking out loud in case anyone else has a Push 3.

HEY STEINBERG!! WHY IS ABLETON LINK NOT PART OF CUBASE PRO 13???!!!
COME ON, PEOPLE. CUBASIS ONLY?? SERIOUSLY??
I have 10 YEARS of Cubase/Ableton ReWire sessions and I can’t open them now in MacOS Ventura???
Come on. This is not a new issue.
PLEASE.

+1 for this feature
Also like the new universal DAW project formatthat Presonus studio 1 and Bitwig have collaborated on. Would be great if Cubase and Ableton got on board - I envision a future of interchangeable DAW projects linked perfectly! Would be bliss using each DAW for its strong points and progressing a project through multiple DAWS at different stages of development. I’ll keep dreaming for now…

yeah high time.

But personally for me it’s much more important for Ableton to step up to the game and support this format - even mores - supprting export DIRECTLY to Cubase format in fact.

Why?

because I would much love to work in Ableton for initial media work - but Ableton obviously lacks many many features relevant to orchestral composition - scoring for one.

But no-one would really want Live to add scoring. No point.
Far better just to allow us to transition Ableton projects into Cubase projects in order to - for example - finalise orchesrtal content- eg for articulation maps scoring - more optimal use of Vienna Ensemble pro etc.

So guess this aspect is one for Ableton devs not Cubase- but - believe me - I’ve already pestered, feature requested and made the case to Ableton for adding some basic orchestral or media composer support - but the simples of these would just be easy exporting from a Live project into a Cubase Pro project.

" DAWProject - yes - archenemy BitWig is behind it - but please Ableton… Support it"

Funny reading this. I first used Ableton Live 5 in Re-Wire with Cubase SX3. I liked the GUI and elastic nature of Live so much I just quit using Cubase. I’d buy an upgrade every so often to make sure I could open my oldest projects. Now, 7 versions later, I’m done with Live… the poor CPU utilization isn’t worth the hassle; especially not when I have something as powerful as Cubase parked in the garage.
But… If I could go back to using Live as a VSTi again with Cubase I’d be stoked. I could even integrate all my recent sets instead of stemming them out and re-mixing in Cubase from the ground up like I am currently.
