About eLicenser service closes down in 2025

Hi guys,

I own a Steinberg UR22C and am trying to understand this new licensing system. I need clarity on what actions I should take moving forward. I couldn’t see any support contact on the website. That’s why I’m writing here.

There are open questions to the Steinberg Company:

  1. After May 2025, how can I upgrade the software I need for my hardware?
  2. Will you continue to support my product, or do I need to make changes to access upgrades?
  3. If changes are required, could you explain what I need to do step-by-step in simple terms?

As a computer engineer, I find steinberg system unnecessarily complex. Even locating the right software for my device is challenging. I would appreciate clear guidance—please explain what I should do as if you were explaining it to a 6-year-old.

Thank you for your help, and I look forward to your response.

Currently you have the BasicFX software that requires the eLicenser for activating your license. This has been changed to the Steinberg Licensing, where you just need the Activation Manager to activate/deactivate a product license.

You can’t, if you stay with the old eLicenser software.

Support for the hardware product has nothing to do with the software license. The hardware will work without the software, but you can’t use the VSTs and plugins, that your device can use. So updating the software is all you need to do.

You just need to download the latest software, install it and activate it via the Activation Manager.

No idea what is complex here, there is a openly documented and presented support page, showing the link to the download pages.
https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us

Click on the Download tab and you are sent to the selection page for all products. Under Hardware select your device

There you find the download links for your operating system

Click on the “Read more” link and you get a detailed description on what to do to change your eLicenser to Steinberg Licensing.

Come on, you said you are a computer engineer, it is not that complicated.
