Using Cubase/Nuendo to record and comp for the first time in years. I’m perplexed (coming from Studio One) about the behaviour of layers and regions when editing.
Example, I record some guitar parts, several layers, I comp - no problems - but, if I want to remove a phrase completely, ie delete a small region, I cannot without it being replaced by the layer beneath and so on until all the layers are removed. The same happens if I drag the start or end of a region, another layer appears in its place. In Studio One if I remove a region or part of a region it correctly assumes that I want no audio there.
Am I missing something? Is there a command or setting that removes a region properly? This makes editing extremely cumbersome, I’m sure it’s not the way it’s supposed to work but haven’t figured out a solution, despite several Googles and searches here.
Thanks for that - just tried it - so I have to actually drag the range, it is not possible to simply select the region and delete - also to resize I have to re-select the tool 1, which adds an additional keystroke to something that should be straightforward (in my humble opinion!) - oh well, I guess it’s what it is. Coming back to Nuendo & Cubase for other reasons but have got used to the very efficient editing and comping of S1. Guess I’ll have to re-program myself.
Not at the computer at the moment so this is from memory.
I think you can mute the event instead of deleting it. That should get you the desired outcome. The key command is called “mute object” (there are other mute commands).
Not sure if it is what you are looking for, but if you have a “cut” through all the events (not “regions”, that a different thing in Cubase terminology ) at the same place on all lanes, you can move them all at the same time if you drag at the main track, not in the lanes. If the cut doesn’t line up and you already have differences, it works somewhat, too, but not really what you want usualy…
