I have some interest in Steinberg’s logo. It is known that Steinberg’s logo has undergone a major change.
One was the Motter Tektura font-based logo that was used starting in 1986, and then the logo that we are more familiar with now.
I would like to know when this logo switching process was completed. When Steinberg released Cubase VST 5 in 2000, they were still using the old logo. When they released Cubase SX in 2002, they adopted a brand new logo. Does this mean that they updated their logo between 2000-2002?When was the slogan of Creative First proposed? Is there any news about this?
This seemed like a great question to ask an AI. So I cut & pasted it & asked MS Copilot.
Yes, you’re correct! Steinberg completed their logo transition between 2000 and 2002. They officially adopted the new logo with the release of Cubase SX in 2002.
Regarding the slogan “Creative First,” it was proposed around 2013. Steinberg has emphasized this slogan to highlight their commitment to fostering creativity through their products and services3.
Is there anything specific you’d like to know about Steinberg’s branding or their products?
@raino Thanks, but AI doesn’t give much beyond what is already known. A company’s logo change often has special meanings - such as a new corporate image or a change in corporate policy, which is often hidden behind the logo change.
Part of the reason I wanted to find news reports about Steinberg’s logo change is that most companies will tell us in the news their motivation for changing their logo (was it a new logo with the company’s name change, or was it a new logo for a rewritten version of the software? This is what I want to know), and the symbolic meaning of the logo design itself (especially considering that Steinberg’s new logo is a graphic logo), and we can also find the exact time of the logo change.
Anyway, compared to yesterday, here are some new results: most of the hardware products released in 2001 still use Steinberg’s old logo, including Steinberg Midex and Steinberg Houston. Until September 2001, a review showed that the software sampler Steinberg HALion launched at this time had applied Steinberg’s new logo, which seems to mean that 2001 is the year when Steinberg’s old and new logos will be replaced - although we still don’t know more details.
if you want to find out more about the history of the Steinberg logo and the marketing campaign behind it you could ask @Matthias_Quellmann who is a Senior Marketing Manager at Steinberg. Maybe he can help you out or point you to the marketing agency which was involved back then?
There were a couple of important things happening around the time of the logo change. The old Cubase code was replaced. Cubase SX was based on Nuendo and everything for Nuendo was basically created from scratch.
Also Steinberg attempted to go public, ie. change the company form so that it could issue shares at the stock market.
