ABRSM Discovering Music Theory

I see that ABRSM have produced a new set of “Discovering Music Theory” books, to align with their new online music theory tests. There’s no mention in the credits of how the books were typeset. Does anybody know?

I rather fancy Dorico could have eaten these for breakfast and still be hungry for more. They are very tidy and have a clear authorial style. Am doing my first outing with a student at the moment and they’re a big improvement on the old books which had separate sources for reference (Eric Taylor) and worksheets.

Just curious…

Could you provide a web link to samples?

I couldn’t find that many before I bought the set but try this for a starter…

ABRSM Discovering Music Theory

A bundle of books for Grades 1 to 5 £34 from Starter Music. Doesn’t seem too pricey…

I don’t know whether it was made in Dorico, but those aren’t Bravura treble clefs, for sure.

Agreed. They look a bit childish to me. Big blob…

Is there a correct name for the blob at the bottom of a treble clef or at the LHS of a bass clef (or indeed within my beloved alto clef)?

In type, it’s called a Ball Terminal.

The font is Opus, so Sibelius. (Whitney and Gotham for the text.)

One day, I’l tell you about my car crash job interview for ABSRM Publishing…
