it seems the positioning of accidentals for bowings like upbow, downbowing doesn’t function in the same manner as positioning of staccato: when I have a selection with several notes, I have to position the upbow in a singular way…

If you apply up- or downbow to a series of contiguous notes, they will be grouped and cannot later be selected individually. I’ve found the best way is to apply them to one note, and then, while still selected (orange) copy them to other notes by alt-clicking.
This was my procedure, too!
