The Acer Aspire 8950G ~ 16GB-RAM seems to be a viable option for a new computer for my needs.
i7-2630QM (2nd generation i7 quadcore mobile)
e-sata, usb 3, gigabit lan
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6650
18 inch display 1920 x 1080
500 gb internal disc
There is an otion for an internal 256gb ssd for 1600 Euros total
I want to use this for heavy sampleplay back sequencing using Vienna Ensemble Pro and one or two other computer for samples.
That means that a perfectly working gigabit lan is a must.
I would choose the 256gb internal ssd 6gb/s . ( As far as I know it is absolutely possible to have the operating system and sample streamimg from the same ssd.)
Of course there would be at least one additional disc using the usb 3 port.
Any input on this plan?
-Does gigbit lan usually work as advertised on a laptop?
- Any experiences with usb 3 and esata?
All this has to perform without a hitch.
- The bios set-up of laptops seems sometimes not in favour of audio applications. Again : Any feedback here?
-The graphic card is using Hyper memory. It has 1024 mb of its own memory and 1792mb shared memory. Is this a show stopper ? (Shared memory used to be a no-no few years back)
-I would like to have a solid workstation for at least 3-4-years.
