Acoustic Samples VHorns for Dorico

Is there any workaround for Acoustic Samples keyswitch problem : “Currently doit/fall (and other keyswitches also) techniques are not mapped as they would require a change in Dorico to trigger the keyswitches at inside the note length”.

I have not managed to trigger keyswitches some amount delayed during the note signs. I have tried to give some delay for add-on switch made to trigger Acoustic Samples keyswitch → not right response.

Do somebody has ideas to overcome this problem?

Not yet. You could add a staff below and input the keyswitches notes (just as if you were playing live with those libraries) and delete (or hide) that additional staff. I think @Bollen explained how he uses that technique to create great big band mock-ups.

What about using a MIDI trigger region for this? You should be able to put that in a specific spot.

That is very simple solution! Thank you very much. By grid density one can adjust the right position for midi trigger (keyswitch).

All the best,
Timo (from Finland)

ps. I just visited Banff , Calcary and Winnipeg. Great places!

Hi Marc,

I could not found @Bolen explanation for this issue. Would you be so kind to send more specific information where I can find it. Thank you, have a great day!

I could not find it, but basically you have 2 options: a quick one and an elegant one.

1.- Quick: right-click on the staff and select ossia below (also change clef, of the ossia, if convenient). Then add keyswitches there. When you’re done with the score, click on the ossia and hide. The problem with this method is that then your music and score become completely intertwined with the keyswitches. So if you want to share your score with someone else that doesn’t have the same libraries, or yourself in another computer without them, it’ll sound like nonsense. Also, this method does not work for Section instruments.

2.- The elegant solution: create a duplicate for all the instruments you want to control (and optionally name them “Keyswitches or KS”). Then connect these duplicates to the instrument you want to control and write your keyswitches here (you can also write MIDI CC here if you want to keep your file extra clean/compatible). The advantage of this system is that then you can create a layout (in Setup Mode) that’s just for playback and keep a separate layout for printing/viewing. It also allows you to quickly delete/mute any MIDI information without affecting your score. This method also works for Section instruments.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bolen

Thank you so much of your clear answers. For topic 1 -Quick I have not managed to get any sound out from ossia and that’s why it does’t send any trigger to VST Plugin. What I can do?

Ossia staves do not produce sound.

Silly me, I meant to say Staff > create staff below.

Hi Derrek,

OK. But I don’t see any movement on my plugin keyboard so no any notes goto plugin to trigger keyswitch?

If you wish to trigger MIDI, use an added staff (hidden, if desired) rather than an Ossia staff.

Hi Bollen and Derek,

Thank you very much. The separate staff works really nice way. Ossia not in this case. And also the idea from Marc Larcher works fine. Case is solved now. Thank you :slightly_smiling_face:.

Br, Timo
