Mr. @Matthias_Quellmann
I have the same problem with my licenses. Cubase 12
Please help
Thank you and best regards
I’m not very bright and trying to understand things. Seems related to this thread. I’ve been using Cubase 11 successfully on a windows PC in my studio for a long time. I decided to upgrade to 12 so I could run it at home on my macbook as well. I haven’t upgraded the PC yet, but it made me finish the activation, so I did that, but the license appears to have gone on the usb dongle. Odd? But ok. I’m finishing a bunch of things up on the PC and don’t want to upgrade to 12 yet. And then I discover my macbook’s OS is too old (it’s a work machine I can’t upgrade) so I can’t install 12. I will be buying a new macbook in the new year. Long story short, will I be fine using Cubase 11 or 12 on my studio PC & Cubase 12 on my new macbook when I finally get it? I’m finding this all a little cumbersome. Thanks!
Thanks to the new Steinberg Licensing system, all you need to do is sign-in to the Steinberg Activation Manager to be able to use Cubase Pro 12. You can activate it on up to 3 computers simultaneously. The USB-eLicenser dongle is no longer used to store your Cubase 12 license.
Run the Steinberg Download Assistant on your new PC and use it to download Cubase Pro 12. The Activation Manager will be automatically installed when you run SDA for the first time.
if you need to run Cubase 11 for whatever reason then you will need a valid licence on an eLicenser - it will not run without it. It will not run with the NEW Cubase 12 licence.
Yes, odd. A V11 to V12 upgrade leaves the original V11 licence on the eLicencer but marks it as upgraded. Check again - if you don’t have it then try to run maintenance on the eLicencer and check what your mysteinberg account says. I won’t have disappeared without trace.
Losing the eLicenser V11 limits your options so it’s worth tracking down what happened.
Thanks! I was just in a rush in my studio yesterday (long story, don’t get there often enough) because i got an email saying I had a few days to complete my activation. It did show as 11/12 upgraded on the e licenser, but I assumed it would show as 11 on the elicenser and 12 somehow in software. 11 still worked fine after that for a couple of hours. I assume I still have the same old valid 11 license on the usb, even though it says upgraded. As long as 11 keeps working with the usb dongle & I can install 12 on my new mac without a dongle whenever that happens, I’ll be fine. I’ll try the maintenance and that tomorrow afternoon. Thanks again!
yes - that licence still works for ALL cubase versions up to V11.
sounds like everything is working just fine and you’re good to go with both V11 and V12. No need to run the maintenance on the elicencer - but also no harm in doing it.
The topic is that if you have already 3 times registered Cubase 12, then you are out of your registrations to do.
In my case i do want to install Cubase 12 again on Windows 11 new sdd , but Steinberg does not allow me anymore to register cubase 12 for the fourth time.
Support of Steinberg is not reacting to reactivatie Cubase ?
Seems to me something wrong at Steinberg support?
So this Cubase software is useless now
You can deactivate from any working/active hardware though, you are aware of that, right?
The more specific issue is where a machine has triggered a new activation and the old remains in the system, unable to be cleared.
Thanks @skijumptoes!
No, i was not aware of that deactivating mechanism and those three registration for Cubase don’t exists anymore on a sdd station
How could i know this at forehand ?
If i knew that activa/deactivate info, then i should have done the deactivations of course, but i did not and i am now in trouble
I started now with Cubase 12 on the new windows 11 sdd
When is Steinberg support this is solving for me
Just scrolled up to your screenshot, as the machine ID is the same - you could maybe try deactivating your current (Reinstalled) machine and see if it removes both entries perhaps?
You deactivate within the Steinberg Activation Manager software. Check your mysteinberg account and see if only one or two gets removed. And then you can just activate again in the Activation manager.
I’d expect that there’s another seperate ID that we don’t see which tracks this activations, but you never know!
Steve thanks,
Well, i did not followed this and of course Steinberg has announced it.
If steinberg now reactivate my Cubase 11 , the problem is solved.

Q: how to do that ?
Note: why has Steinberg not on the activation confirmation screen added a button for deactivating ?
Seems to be solved by downloading the Steinberg activation manager ?
I deactivate Cubase 12 there in the manager and now a red button emerges with activate written on it …
No…same situation : activation limit reached, so still the need to deactivate first the useless activations
Deactivation can be done by Steinberg support as it seems , but how to do this as user?
Its wrong software design by Steinberg this activating/deactivating mechanism and support is not reacting ?
the user can deactivate it from the machine with the activation manager. But there is no other way, sadly.
That’s why this is a mess.
In your case, one machine has activated twice so you can only deactive the new version, you’ll just need to wait until Steinberg fix it for you. It’s really really terrible service.
They should just increase the number of activations until this has a more formal solution. I’ve never owned software where users have had to visit a forum to get access to it.
I also have a problem with my license, I have installed Cubase 12 Pro on three computers, now my first install suddenly says “Activation Limit Reached”. I entered a support request ten days ago, no response yet. Please Steinberg, help me with this! I paid dearly for the product over the last years, so this is a bummer.
Cheers Roel.
It’s been 7 days since Steinberg doesn’t answer me and doesn’t delete 2 of my licenses that I don’t need anymore. Also, those machines are ruined, please help Steinberg @Matthias_Quellmann @dspreadbury
Ladies and gentlemen, your activations have been reset.
Thanks!,
Now i know how this activation mechanism work for the future
It was something not really aware of
@Matthias_Quellmann Thank you very much Steinberg I have just registered my Mac pro and Macbook pro successfully.
