I purchased Dorico 5 Professional when the upgrade from Finale to Dorico was allowed.
The program was activated online.
Today I opened Dorico 5 and received a message for a new update to version 6.1.22.
Using the Assistant, I downloaded version 6 and installed it.
When I opened the program, I couldn’t open it because it requires a license key.
I believe that to get it, I need to purchase version 6 (99 euros). But I had already purchased version 5 Professional, paying for it at the time, so I believe I’m entitled to the upgrade.
How should I activate version 6?
To activate Dorico 6 you must purchase a license unless you only activated Dorico shortly before the D6 upgrade.
But you can still use Dorico 5, which is what you paid for.
You can use Dorico 6 (6.1) for 60 days, freely, as a trial. This will allow you to know from the bottom of your heart that you want to pay for it (or not…)
And in any case, Dorico 5 will still work for you.
Thanks for your reply.
Neither Dorico 5 nor Dorico 6 will open for me. They both require a license.
I updated Dorico 5 to version 6 because, when I opened Dorico 5, I received a message saying there was a new update (6.0.22).
I purchased Dorico 5 cross-graded from Finale, so it was already activated upon payment.
I don’t see any licenses in MySteinberg or Steinberg Activation Manager. I can no longer launch Dorico 5 or Dorico 6. Who can I contact to verify and link my license to my account?
If there are problems with Dorico 6, at least I can continue using Dorico 5.

No: you received a code, which you then have to enter in the Steinberg Download Manager. Did you do that?
This video explains everything you need(ed) to do.
This is clearly not normal, since you do have a Dorico 5 valid license. What I’d suggest is to open the Steinberg Activation Manager before anything else, and refresh (the round arrow button) or force refresh (press shift while clicking on the refresh button). Once it’s ok, start Dorico 5 for the full license, or Dorico 6 to start your trial
[Edit] Follow @benwiggy 's advice, of course, if you had not activated Dorico 5!

No activation under payment exists. As Ben told you, you have received an activation code (I know, I do have a crossgrade from Finale too)
I don’t think that is correct. You would have received a code to enter in Steinberg Download Assistant…
Of course. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to use it without the code. But where can I find this code now?
Is it possible that after upgrading to version 6, the code for version 5 will be deleted?
Your code should be in the email sent by Makemusic when you bought the Finale crossgrade. Check you emails!
I watched the video you pointed out (though I didn’t understand much of the English). However, in the video screenshots, I noticed that I should reinstall Dorico 5. So, I’m back to square one, because how do I get a free code if I’ve already paid for it?
I don’t think you need to reinstall Dorico 5. What makes you say this? For the record, you can have multiple (working) versions :
(my Applications folder)
I opened Steinberg Activation Manager. I pressed Shift while selecting the button with the round arrow, but nothing happened. I went to my Steinberg account, and strangely, I didn’t see Dorico 5 (maybe I didn’t register it at the time?!)
I opened @benwiggy’s suggestion, but the video is in English and I don’t understand it. Perhaps I figured from the video images that I need to reinstall Dorico 5 from scratch?
However, to resolve the activation issue, there isn’t an email address for Steinberg staff to report the problem to. If I could, I could provide paper copies of the payment so they can activate at least Dorico 5. Or, could you tell me how? Otherwise, I’ll lose all my previous work.

Caro Carlo,
no posso spiegare queste cose in Italiano, è troppo tecnico per me…
Sure, I received the code to enter it, but where is it? My question is: if version 5 worked before downloading version 6, does that mean this code is somewhere on my PC? What’s strange to me is that downloading version 6 erased the code for version 5, so now if I open version 5, it wants a code again. The only way is for someone from Steinberg to check my payment and at least reactivate version 5. But how do I contact them?
Here’s the email I received with my access code:
They read everything. If you really don’t find the solution to your problem, chances are they will contact you… But honestly, you should be able to solve this, I think
Carlo, you don’t have a Dorico license in the account you’re using to sign in to the forum. Is it possible that you have another Steinberg ID account using a different email address?
No, no. I log in to Steinberg with my Google address, partly because before Dorico, I worked with Cubase (which I gave to a music school because it was too complex for me). It’s the same address I use to get replies from the forum.
I think you must have another Steinberg ID account with your Dorico license in it. If you can send me a private message with any other email addresses you could possibly have used, I’ll try to find the account with your Dorico license in it.
