ADAT Preamp signal issue with UR824 and UR816c

Hey all I’m new here.

I’m having issues connecting my UR816C to my UR824. I can get each individual unit separately to get a signal when I run them separately (if I use one unit by itself I can get the 8 channels, for each unit respectively). But when I connect them via ADAT, I get no signals from the slave unit (channels 1-8 get signal but the adat channels don’t get signal (No Metering either)). I’ve set one unit to internal and the other to ADAT. I’ve set each unit to 48hz. I’m just trying to get my extra preamp inputs working. Not routing to analog gear. This is my first time running ADAT just wanted to expand the amount of channels. I’ve tried it using ADAT in to slave out, ADAT out to Slave in, And tried using ADAT out and in to slave in and out. (I’ve tried all the ADAT wiring combinations other than out to out and in to in).

The device manager inside each of the mixfx recognizes the units. I’ll get the menu’s for each of them to be able to switch the settings on each unit, but the mic signal never registers for the ADAT channels. It’s the same thing with the mixfx softwares for each individual unit. I tried running the 824 into the 816 and it’s the same thing. Slave unit inputs don’t get recognized, but I’m able to adjust the clock respectively in the device manager.

I’ve tried with only the master units plugged in USB, and tried it with both units plugged in USB. No signal in the ADAT preamps.

I’ve installed all the updated firmware. Reinstalled the tools for UR-C and UR. I’m running windows 10 Pro.

Any Help would be appreaciated

So I ended up getting a reply from support and so far the problem is solved. Here is the solution incase any person in the future wishes to do the same.

From support:
Here are some steps we no longer have the older interface so we are doing this from memory and the manuals so there may be some wiggle room on the steps.

  1. Turn off the ur824
  2. Connect and turn on the 816c and open the DSP Mix FX URc
  3. Go to the setting in the dsp mixer.
  4. For the Adat outputs change the setting to input 1/2 for 1/2, 3/4 for 3/4 etc etc.
  5. Make sure the faders are up on the 8 analogue strips and then I would store the scene and turn off the 816c this should store the settings.
  6. Now disconnect the 816c from the computer
  7. Connect 1 ADAT cable from the output of the 816c to the input of the 824. Just using it as an A/D converter this is all you should need
  8. Now this is where I get foggy. In Cubase, you want to change the asio to the Yamaha Steinberg one so you are on the 824 and then I cannot remember if you set the word clock to external but I feel it is Adat. You can experiment if you get noise or ticks and pops we have to alter these until hey go away.
  9. No go to Studio > Audio setup and you can create the busses so any combo you need of the new 8 inputs connected to the adat input busses.
