Suppose you were making a multitrack recording of a band’s live show. During soundcheck you might make a bunch adjustments in levels, EQ, routing, etc. Since you don’t want to accidentally change those settings during the performance you Lock the Track. But you still need to be able to Record on those Tracks. Locking the Record Enable On or Off and having it behave the way it is locked is a legit thing to expect.

I understand both of the last two points.
I think the solution here could be for Steinberg to just add the option in the Preferences menu for the Project Window / Inspector. Those who want the LOCK button to also prevent recording on the track could do so, without disrupting the workflow of users who need it to still be able to record.
