To improve workflow speed, it would be great if Cubase has an option for key commands to be activated when a button is being held only and goes back to the previous setting when released. This could be as ‘simple’ as adding a checkbox to the Key Commands panel with the option “Hold”.
Yeah! Like the “I“ key in PhotoShop for the Eye Dropper tool … oh my what a splendid example haha!
+1 for that.
Hi,
it’s not like I don’t see the benefits of your request. But isn’t this something you already have at your disposal if you assign key commands combined with modifiers like Alt, Shift and alikes?
There are plenty of free combinations which can get you very far if rearranged systematically.
Please - for my use case - i’d love to have snap to grid turned off at all times - unless if i hold the button.
if you have a good way of getting this behaviour - i’m very open to suggestions.
I believe what OP is requesting is an option to allow a key command to act as a momentary switch. As I see it, it would only be feasible for some commands. For example, press and hold X to switch to the Mute tool until you release the button.
This particular behavior is not currently possible.
I think adding temporary toggles in general would be a great idea for manu cubase functions, and while I keep snap turned on I can see this being very useful.
Thanks @mlib .
Sorry @diggidis - I’ve realized by now that I misread your feature request, my bad.
When it comes to your example:
Suspending snap to grid while dragging an event is possible if you hold down Ctrl (Cmd on Mac). But I get it, you want to do it the other way round…
Yeah - its more when dealing with CC data in post as well - and when the toggle leaves it on sometimes resulting in lots of undo’s - re-toggling. It would just save a lot of unnecessairy actions knowing it’s always off - unless - i hold the designated key.
I love this idea. Digital Performer has a lot of functions where press/hold key does a momentary use of tool and then double tap shortcut key locks it in.
Yo, hold instead of toggle for certain commands? Sign me up!
Wow are you the famous Game Maestro Dale North!? I figured for someone of your credits list be on DP all along, nice to know you use Cubase too!
