Add option to expand/collapse folders in mixer view

Option to collapse/expand folders which was created in main track view should reflect in mixer viewer and should have the option to independently collapse/expand it…
Collapsing folder in mixer viewer was a neat way while mixing, instead of scrolling and getting lost in the view.

Folder manually added in track view or FX Channels like folders automaically created in track view or Group channels created in mixer viewer should have the option to collapse/expand.

I see this option was suggested long time back, please include this feature.

I think with the existing Visibility settings we already have “folders” in the Mixer view. Group Tracks appear in their own Folder, same for FX channels, and, those can also be moved. Other tracks can also be grouped into logical patterns and sent to Sub-Groups. So, I like the idea of folders for the Mixer, but, I think the existing visibility controls already give me much, if not all, of the benefits that this would allow. This is for a visibility problem when you have many tracks
the way to get around the problem
and that it is enough to use visibility PLEs which will allow you to select the tracks of one or more folders that you need in the main track view and then open the mixer

Some background info (not to take anything away from the FR):
The tracklist in the Project window shows, well, tracks.
The mixing console shows channels.
In many cases it is hard to spot the difference but here it is…
Channels reside always within tracks, but not every track has a channel, e.g. folder tracks. That is the reason why folder tracks do not appear in the console and therefore channels cannot be “folded away”.
A channel can either be mono, stereo, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, and so on. You get the idea. So a channel is not automatically mono like it mostly is on analog consoles. A channel can also be a MIDI channel, thus MIDI tracks can appear in the mixer console.
A track can have more than one channel. This is the case when there is a plugin loaded on the track that offers more than one audio output.

I assume the above is also the reason why we cannot move channels around in the mixer. We can only move tracks but tracks do not appear in the mixer.

Steinberg would have to redesign the track/channel relationship in order to be able to allow for folders to appear in the mixer and allow channels to be folded.
Or they could introduce the combined Folder/Group track, that is requested by quite a few people. Such a track has a channel, would therefore show up in the mixer and could get an extra button there to fold any “daughter” channels.

Or maybe they come up with something totally different. Let’s see.

There are so many ways to do things in Cubase. I asked a question about folding the tracks in the mix console. To my great pleasure I got the perfect solution to my query, use the visibility function. I gave it a test and it did exactly what I was hoping to do which is put my large collection of drum channels out of the way when finished the drum part and make the size of the mix console much smaller to reduce scrolling time when looking for channels.
In addition, I got an explanation as to why the tracks and channels are different and why. Thanks boys.2025-04-05T04:00:00Z
