Adding a sampler track

Hi forumers,

I’m writing an orchestral score in which I’d like to add whale calls. These are short audio WAV files. I’d like to open them in a sampler assigned to a staff and trigger the sounds by writing rythm or notes in the score.

Is there a way I can do this?

Adding an audio track has been a long-standing request from the community. The team is aware and it’s on the list. Unfortunately, there are some technical difficulties involved that has kept them from adding this yet.

You should be able to do that with any VST3 sampler (full HALion, Kontakt, Groove Agent, various Arturia synths etc). You can use MIDI trigger regions to trigger the samples, if you don’t want the trigger notes to appear in the score.

Hi thanks for your answer,
I’ve tried with Halion and Kontakt but they don’t seem to handle wav files. I’ll double check on this.

Try Sforzando

HALion does support wav files, I’ve just tried.

Thanks Ikos,

I only have Halion Sonic with Dorico that, I believe, is not a sampler. However, I have succeeded to play my files with Kontakt 8.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Kontakt also works with WAV files. If you have Kontakt 8, the easiest way to work with samples is probably by using Leap. Load Kontakt 8 in Dorico, choose File/New Leap Preset and then simply drop wave files on desired keys. Make sure to select tuning to None as you don’t want to change pitch of your samples.
