Adding bars before a bar

Hello,

I am trying to add bars before a bar ( the start of a piece), but everything I found describes how you add bars after a bar. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Select the clef at the beginning, type shift-b press enter.

Before typing shift-b, selecting the key signature, time signature, or first notational element (ie note or rest) in the first bar also works.
