Good day,
how can I quickly add layers or sounds from the Media Bay to a MIDI track? The layers don’t exist in the layers section and I only want and need them in the tracks section.
Thanks for your help!

Hi!
Layers are layers, so they can be found in LAYERS section. However you can connect any MIDI track to a LAYER
In VL the MIDI tracks are working the same clean as a MIDI track usually in any a DAW. They are reallly “just MIDI tracks”.
You talking about an instrument track in Cubase, that translates to a midi track connected to a layer (global or song layer) in VST live!
Cheers!
I just want to be able to quickly load an instrument that has already been saved. So far I don’t know how to do this for MIDI tracks. I don’t see any of my saved layers or sounds here, nor can I quickly drag one to the output device…
Hello @UdoBehm
only Layers have the option to load “Shared” Layer Instruments. MIDI Tracks cannot share instruments. It’s on our future-list.
See you,
Michael.
I just see that I could use presets for quickly recalling instruments… However I don’t find where on the hard drive the presets are being saved and how I could delete them too… Could you tell me?
Surely it can be done already with Virtual MIDI.
The menu you showed is the list of installed VST’s. If you want a VST with settings already for Piano+Strings then create your layer and save it in the media bay. Then drag it out of the media bay to a song. Note that media bay can be saved locally (i.e with the project) or globally (available to every project).
As far as I know saved layers only contain configuration information and not the actual code of the VST, as you seem to suggest in another post.
I’m talking about presets:
According to the manual (as far as I understand it), presets include the plugin itself:
However - I do not find the files for these presets on my hard drive, nor do I know how I can remove them…
“Including the plugin” - I think that’s an interpretation/translation issue.
I am unclear as to which presets you are referring to - VSTLs or Komplete Kontrol? Your screens imply Komplete in which case the preset locations are documented in the manual.
I’ve just saved a test layer with Kontakt in - 542kb - there’s no way that contains the Kontakt plugin. QED
Where in the manual would I find the location? I was reading it but couldn’t find any location for the plugin presets…
Ok, but still I cannot use a part to tell VST Live to only load the preset instead of the whole plugin, right?
MIDI program change?
exactly, i use midi program change from a track to vitrtual midi out X
then set virtual midi in X to the instrument/plugin midi input (in this case i send it to amplitube 5 on a global stack, to change sounds on guitar).
In the Komplete Kontrol manual - page 21
In detail, you can create a global part, add a global layer (active for all the songs!)
then in each song, create a midi track and send program changes via virtual midi to the global layer, sending preset changes whenever you want during the songs… 1 instance of the plugin for all show, changing sounds and presets inside plugins via program changes automation.
That’s how i work with Amplitube 5.
I created events for each preset, named accordingly 8clean reverb, clean delay, overdrive, distorted rhytmics, distorted delayed solo, etc etc), then copy paste the correct clip when sound changes are needed.
Cheers.
Page 21 on the current Komplete Kontrol manual that you find on the official NI website explains how to save, load and delete a user preset: https://www.native-instruments.com/fileadmin/ni_media/downloads/manuals/komplete_kontrol/Komplete_Kontrol_MK3_Manual_English_17102023.pdf
I know that MIDI program change is not an easy thing with NI Software. The only program that it really works - also only kind of! - is Guitar Rig.
Komplete Kontrol doesn’t use MIDI program changes at all as far as I know (maybe they have intruduced that meanwhile, but I doubt it will work well) and also you couldn’t specify the instruments that shall become loaded. As much as I would like to use this approach - I think it just won’t work well with NI Software. Even with Kontakt it’s hard to make program changes that are easy to realize…
Back to my question: Where do I find the presets generated by VST Live on my hard drive? How can I delete them?? I’ve searched through the whole user data base on my hard drive - I couldn’t find them, nor could I delete or rename them (inside or outside VST Live)…
