Adding slurs to cues

I have a vocal part cued in winds. Is it possible to add slurs to the wind cues that don’t exist in the vocal?

Not that I know.

If you absolutely need this you could duplicate your vocal players/instruments and music, put them into a group in Setup mode (to avoid automatically numbering), uncheck those Players from score layout, and use them as cues sources.

Not optimal, but that should work. The goal is for the piece to work with chorus and without, using winds to play the missing parts. But music that isn’t slurred for voices usually need slurs for winds.

I see.

Anyway here a couple of screenshots from my previous suggestion:

Or if you are willing to make a version without choir (that needs reprint of score and parts), here a suggested setup. I made cues and group labels visible, for clarity.
(If you are aware of this possibilities, never mind, maybe it can be helpful for someone else):

I completely agree - it would be incredibly valuable if a future Dorico update allowed cues to include articulations and dynamics.

I’m currently preparing a musical theatre score and have run into this exact limitation. The inability to carry over essential performance markings in cues is a major hurdle, especially in Keys parts where frequent instrument changes are the norm. Maintaining a duplicate score isn’t a practical workaround, given the pace of revisions and the tight deadlines during rehearsals. I could prepare the Keys parts manually, but without a way to lock them to the original material, it introduces too much potential for human error.

I really hope this feature is on the roadmap. For now, I may have to revert to Sibelius - definitely not my ideal solution.

Have a look at Engraving Options>Cues>Included notations…
You can include articulations, slurs, dynamics, playing techniques and ornaments!

And of course, you can set Engraving Options to match, if you want to do this on an industrial scale.

I’m absolutely thrilled you pointed me to these options. It’s clear the developers have thought of everything - so elegant, and so straightforward once you know where to look! Thank you

I started my Dorico journey with version 3, but didn’t actually begin using it until version 5. Even so, I was happy to be contributing, however modestly, to the development of software that already felt like the future of music notation, even before I fully adopted it. Since then, I’ve transitioned away from Sibelius and its costly annual subscription model.

When I see people on this forum raising concerns about the very modest cost of Dorico’s biennial updates, especially given the value and innovation each one brings, it really puts things in perspective. To me, it’s a no-brainer investment in a tool that continues to evolve in all the right ways.

On top of that, the Dorico forum is an exceptional community, thanks to the many generous users who invest their time, energy, and patience to help others along their individual journeys.

Just to be clear, the original post in this thread was asking about being able to add slurs to cues that don’t appear in the source staff, not about including slurs which do appear in the source staff.

Apologies. As you observe, I hijacked this thread with a slightly different issue.
