Adding tenor and bass parts to existing SSA scores

Hello Dorico Friends,
I am adding Tenor and Bass parts to SSA pieces in a choir project, and having a struggle with writing the Tenor part in Treble clef sounding an octave down. I know Tenors prefer reading Treble clef. All the hymnals I have use a Bass clef for tenor and bass voices. May I surmise from this extended commentary that getting a choir in two staves:: Treble SSA and Bass TB is a Herculean task in Dorico? Thanks for giving me the bottom line on this situation.

(I’ve moved your post to a new topic, since I don’t think it’s really related to the topic you added it onto the end of.)

If you want to add separate tenor and bass staves to your scores, then in Setup mode, add two new players, one for the Tenor voice, and the other for Bass. The tenor voice will by default show a treble staff with an 8 below, and it is written an octave higher than it sounds. The bass voice will show a bass staff.

If you want to put the tenor and bass voices together onto a single staff, it’s customary to use a staff with a bass clef, with the tenor parts written in an up-stem voice and the bass parts written in a down-stem voice. If this is what you want to do, I would suggest adding a Bass voice, and then writing the two parts on that staff, in the bass (G) clef, using separate voices.

Thank you so much for this, Daniel. I already use a bass staff for the Bass, and did not think of adding the Tenor to it.
