Hello all, I am stuck with this issue, Is there a way to lock the device fader associations as set in generic device panel so when adding new audio or midi tracks, the associations will remain as they were before? When I add tracks the device faders I was controlling change associations so it tough to keep work flow efficient if I have to re program the generic device channels every time I add or copy audio tracks because the settings are lost.
Its not the controller, I see the changes in the device window, and they are random, not in the order of new tracks inserted.

Tell me what device you are using and post a copy of your generic device XML that you are using
KD, its a Novation Zero SL MK II - can you tell me where the xml files are stored for generic device, I dont see them in program file folders anywhere ,
I’m not sure where they get stored by default. What you need to do is click the export button. This will save the controller set up as an XML. You can use this XML as a back up and import it back in if you ever need to reinstall or move stations.
Do that, and post it.
Ok, i exported and pasted XML ( wont let me attach xml or note pad file) I added one audio track and it changed the settings again. I re-loaded the xml and it did not restore the file as it was before adding the audio track. Very odd. Thanks for taking a look

I am only using some controls, and set others to not assigned.
I don’t know if this is the source of your problems, it appears that your controls are all mapped to the same fader (control#7), it’s only the midi channel that is switching. Learning and setting up generic midi takes time and it’s really not explained very well. You’ll have to do a lot of trial and error.
The Zero SL has a default setting to control faders and panning etc using automap with cubase/nuendo… have you tried that? If all you want to do is control volume, I’d skip generic midi all together.
I’ve always found it easier to start from scratch.
Make a new device, and import this xml - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10358449/CLEAR%20ALL.xml
This will remove all the default faders etc.
Then build a new one control by control, it’s very tedious.
Here is one I built for the Traktor Kontrol 1 unit from Native Instruments. It might help you get the lay of the land and figure out how it works - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10358449/Traktor1.xml - This took me many hours across many nights to do. In the end it’s worth it because I know I can reach out and grab a control that will ALWAYS do the same thing on the selected track.
KDS, i will check this out. I tried automap but it also dropped the assignments, and, the interface seemed a little buggy so I removed auto map and went to midi control mode. Thanks for the detail. If anyone else has input please write.

KDs, i am taking the novation back, i really need automated faders, and dont expect this issue with the higher end controllers, thanks again for your input.
If you need the cash toward another controller, I get it. But if you can, keep the Zero. Automap+plugins is used daily over here. If you’ve work on a D-control, it’s very similar to always having that EQ/Dynamics section right in front of you, except this is just a plug in section. It’s the only controller I know of besides the icon that allows you to do custom plug in mapping.
Automap 4.1 sucks, I updated to it and rolled back that night.
Get automap 3.7.4 while you still can on the website.
