Additional VST and Midi instances

I have a template that connects to a single large instance of VEPro and it works great, but once in a while I’ll look at the midi rack and see additional instances that appear and I can’t figure out why. They’re not connected to anything and I can delete them without issues, but I’d like to know why they appear to begin with. Here’s a screenshot and the ‘template’ attached if that helps.

Are those saved endpoints in a playback template? If so, Dorico doesn’t handle VEP instances and player routing all that well when adding/deleting instruments. It will just try and add a new instance but it will fail to connect. If you aren’t paying attention, they can add up and create a mess

It is a saved endpoint but not a proper playback template. So I guess I need to pursue that. There was a reason that escapes me now why I couldn’t create a playback template for this.

I don’t think it really hurts anything that i can tell but it’s not very tidy to be sure.

Dorico playback templates don’t work with VE Pro if you have IVP enabled. And you have IVP enabled on several staves in your score. See this thread for details and follow the other links mentioned in that thread.

Aah yes that was it. I’ll study that thread for a solution. Many thanks.

The only relatively simple workaround is to use a project template with all instruments and voices you would ever need and delete what you do not need for each new project you use it for.

Or each time deleting the unconnected VEP instances which Dorico opens. You have to be very disciplined however as Dorico can for some reason (Cubase also had that but now solved this) only delete the last instance in your VST rack. So if it is in the middle between instances you need, you can just put it on blank but it does not go away like in Cubase.
