I’ve been experimenting with some of the 3rd party VSTs that do this type of panning, it’s an interesting effect and result especially with stacked layers.
The downside to using these panners as inserts is if you use Mono tracks, obviously they don’t work. So you either have to use Stereo tracks for everything (which personally I don’t do and don’t like), or, you have to create stereo FX/Group tracks with the Panner plugin on them and route your mono track to it.
Also, there’s the obvious workflow efficiency difference of having to always open a plugin just to adjust pan, vs, having it right there in the console environment.
It would be interesting if this was implemented into Cubase, where a user can right-click on the panner, turn on advanced panning, and be able to open an options dialogue to tweak settings.
I’d like a way to quickly bypass between Advanced Panner and Normal right in the MixConsole/Channel Strip
Softube actually included this type of panning in their Console1 software, @Dom_Sigalas actually demo’d it in a video seen here:

I think it is potentially, a competitive feature, to continue making MixConsole stand out from the rest.
