Hi,
I’m considering using an older Mac as a video-playback device with Nuendo.
I’ve been reading the online help but I can’t really figure out how this is supposed to work over a network connection (the IAC bus in MacOS).
Does anyone have experience with this?
I’m not looking to sync sound only video playback.
Thanks for any insights!
- I use VST System Link and sound cards in both machines. It could be possible via ethernet only using the virtual Dante driver. Either way the method needs a bidirectional digital audio link.
or
- You could use MTC via midi with ethernet by using a network midi session in OSX as the midi connection. Set video mac to slave to midi MTC at the same frame rate as the master mac (set to transmit MTC out the network connection.
Having tried both methods I have found SystemLink to be way more responsive and reliable.
Then you would need to use something like Catchin Sync iphone app to calibrate your sync time offset. Thats what I use with success.
Edit: BTW you shouldnt need IAC as that is for inter-application midi within the same mac. When you create a new network midi session and add both macs to it, the name of the midi session appears in Cubendo as a new midi port.

Thanks! TIL: I never knew IAC was an acronym for Intern Application Communication so it is logical that it doesn’t work between computers
doh!
I’ll test both your options and see how it goes.
