Aeolian vs. Air

Hi,

Dorico includes in the standard set two playing techniques (not related to any playback technique) called aeolian and air.

I would have thought of them as equivalents, but at this point we have two of them. How would you differentiate them?

At the moment, I’ve decided to assign them this way:

  • Aeolian for aeolian sounds (only made of air with a hint of pitch).

  • Air for wind tones (pitch with a lot of air).

Would you do the same?

Paolo

The opposite. Aeolian = pitch with air; Air = blow in tube, no pitch or residual

It makes sense. Thank you!

Paolo
