"After inputting note" - the last sound heard

Note entry.

When entering notes in the “Before Duration” and “After inputting note” modes when adding accidentals. When moving the note pitch using the arrows, the last saved sound is played. For example, if I enter a quarter note g1 and then use the up arrow to enter the next note c2, the “g” sound is heard each time I press the arrow (i.e. 3x). I would like the note to be heard only when I press the note value key on the numeric keypad.

There is no problem if I set “Before inputting note” but then unfortunately I have to enter accidentals or dots before the note.

I am a Finale user and it was solved like this there.

Is this how it’s supposed to look like in the video? I want it to not play the last note when moving the pitch. Only the note I enter after selecting the note value.

Please don’t bump threads – it’s considered poor etiquette on this forum. I know it can be frustrating to wait for help or an answer, but as you’ve seen in the several other threads you’ve created in the past few days, help does eventually come. I’ve not yet had a chance to look at this particular thread, but I will do as soon as I can.

It’s not about bumping. I know that the support team in this Pan is very busy. I really appreciate the help and support. My new posts in this topic were meant to clarify my doubts. I’m a new user and I thought the question was unclear - or I didn’t state it precisely. Please forgive me and understand my point of view

In that case, I’ll be patiently waiting for help.

Best regards and thanks again for your help!

Is there anything more we know? Any chance this will be changed in the next update?

I’m unable to play the video you’ve posted here. Can you please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report so that I can see what preferences you have set, and also can you please provide a step-by-step set of instructions for how to reproduce the problem you are experiencing?

It may be that the problem depends on a specific combination of settings, and perhaps also on which commands you are using (e.g. have you made any changes to the default key commands, and if so, what have you changed?).

For example:

  1. On the Note Input and Editing page of Preferences, set:
  • By default, specify pitch to Before Duration;
  • Specify accidental, rhythm dot and articulations to After inputting note
  • Play notes during note input and selection to on
  • Play changes of shadow note pitch in pitch before duration input to on
  1. Start a new project using the Solo piano template.
  2. Double-click in the staff to start note input.
  3. Type G to set the shadow note to G.

EXPECTED: G is played back.
ACTUAL: As expected.

  1. Type 6 to input a G quarter note.

EXPECTED: G is played back.
ACTUAL: As expected.

  1. Type = to set a sharp accidental on the selected G quarter note.

EXPECTED: G# is played back.
ACTUAL: As expected.

  1. Type Alt+up arrow to move the shadow note upwards.

EXPECTED: The pitch where the shadow note appears is played back.
ACTUAL: As expected.

If you can write something like the above, it will help me to understand where the problem lies.

I am a Finale user.

A few months ago, instructions appeared on how to do it to type similarly to “speed entry” in Finale.

So I modified the keyboard shortcuts: up arrow - moves the note shadow up, down arrow - moves the note shadow down.

Expectation:

I change the pitch to G1 with the arrows, then click 6 (quarter note). The note G1 is entered and the sound of the entered quarter note is played. Then I click “+” the sound is played with the change. Then I enter another sound - the note shadow to the note D1 with the arrows. The sound is not played after each note shift (F, E, D). Clicking 6 plays the sound of the note D1.

Real:

I change the pitch to G1 with the arrows, then click 6 (quarter note). The note G1 is entered but the sound is not played. Then I click “+” the sound is played with the change. Then I enter the next sound - with arrows the note shadow on the note D1. The sound is not played after each note shift (F, E, D). Clicking 6 the D1 sound is not played.

Where should I send the diagnostic file?

Can someone please help? This is quite frustrating…

The problem is as in the video below.
Dorico does not play the entered note. It only plays when a sharp, flat or a cancel is added. After mode.
In Before mode it plays well.
However, having used Finale for over 10 years, I would like to be able to use Dorico in a similar way.

Have you checked Enable MIDI thru’ on the Play tab of Preference?

Yes. The option is enabled. I didn’t touch anything.

You can post it here, if it’s less than 4MB. If it’s bigger than that, you can use any file sharing service and post a link here.
