AI5 sounds good until record is pressed

Hi - This is my first shot at digital recording. I’ve followed every direction from the manufacturer. I’ve used a latency checker that says my system can handle audio streaming. My guitar sounds fine until I hit record. Then it sounds like an old transistor radio. When I solo every string pluck comes with a ‘pop’, and a ‘slap back’, like a bad echo. I disable the inserts which fixes most of the bad echo, but I’m still left with the pop and total loss of tone. It’s very difficult to describe, but it’s so distasteful, I can’t use it. My friend suggested it might be the stock factory sound card in my laptop. Processor is an Intel Core i5 with 4 gigs of ram with a 64 bit Windows 7 O/S. I’ve rambled on enough - I will appreciate any feedback that anyone can offer.

Yes, you certainly should try a decent ASIO compliant soundcard first.

Thanks for the reply thinkingcap - I’ll give it a shot.
