Akai MPD - NRPN Inc/Dec Knobs

Hey!

I want my knobs to be “relative” as opposed to “absolute”. In other words, if the Pan pot is in the middle, when I nudge my knob (lol I know what you’re thinking), I don’t want it to jump to whatever value my knob has. I want it to move from where it was.

The knob can be set under three different modes:

  • “Control Change” which allows for an absolute value, 0-127
  • “Aftertouch” which sends a midi aftertouch signal for any note you want (0-127)
  • “INC/DEC” which is an NRPN function that sends an increase/decrease message depending on which way you turn the knob.

I’ve tried using the INC/DEC feature to no avail.

Anybody have any suggestions/luck with this?

Where it was in the software?

I don’t think your MPD is able to do that. You’ll need bidirectional traffic between software and the MPD when you want something like this.
Akai added the preview button for this kind of stuff, although in my opinion that’s not much of a solution.

Yeah, not much of a solution haha it’s kind of useless.

I was hoping I’d be able to do this with the INC/DEC feature.
