Album report for vinyl

I want to create an effective workflow for exporting vinyl master files, and an important part of this would be an album report showing the play times for each side. So, is it possible to generate a simple text file in the Raw Text tab containing the total playtime information for each group? I like the flexibility and simplicity of the Cue Sheet Templates, but I could not find any codes or commands for the assigned group for each track. (Not sure if Steinberg has already updated the manual for version 13). The 13 version introduced the option to render all groups at once, which is a big improvement for rendering the vinyl masterfiles. It would therefore be great to be able to create an automatic vinyl album report with as few potential error sources as possible.

Alternatively, I would be satisfied with a simple list showing which group each song belongs to. You could then build a patch processing system that calculates and prints the total length for each page.

thanks

Yes. This is done using Title Groups and this request/issue was solved long ago for this exact reason.

Title Groups can be defined for rendering a WAV file of each side, as well as generating a report for each album (or cassette) side that matches each file as opposed to only showing the total montage times which doesn’t work for sides B and higher.

I’m not at a computer now but I can show more later if you can’t find it or nobody else chimes in.

To add to what Justin mentioned, the album tool window has a Group column where you can define which tracks belong to side A and which tracks belong to side B. Once defined, the album report window has a menu near the top where you can select title groups A or B, thereby allowing you to create separate reports and durations for each side.

Thanks for your reply. I am already familiar with Title Groups and use them for rendering the master WAV files. (I mentioned it in my post with only “groups”, sry…)

I checked the ‘Album Report’ option, where you can create a report for each title group. This almost meets my requirements, but I still have the following problems:

- I have to make one report file for each side, which can be confusing when you have two vinyls with four sides in total.

- I don’t like how the report looks and I need it to be in a simple text format.

- So, I would like to use the ‘Raw Text’ report option. This is a great way to create simple yet well-structured reports in ‘.txt’ format.

- But – and that is the actual point of my request – I can not find commands for Title Group in the Raw Text report. If there were such commands, it would be possible to create clear and simple .txt reports including the Title Groups with only one mouse click.

By unchecking some options, you can make it very simple looking.

This is a legacy feature that was only used for CDs. Do not use it.

FWIW, I do many double, triple, and even 4xLP vinyl releases and have never had any client confusion or complaints about there being one report for each side.

To me it only makes sense to have a report that goes with each side instead one report and multiple WAV files.

This website can make cleaner PDF reports from XML data exported from WaveLab 13:

There are some examples on the website.

OK, I have now found a way to meet my needs by using a custom XML PowerShell converter (with the help of ChatGPT). Now I need to create an XML file for each title group. Then I can drag and drop multiple XML files onto the batch file which will generate one simple TXT file with all the information I need. (list of tracks for each side, total length etc.)
Thank you for your input, which has helped me to get what I need.

It’s a pity that this feature is no longer being improved. Reports could be created very flexibly.
