Hi, new to using Dorico from Finale v27. Something I need to do with a piece I’m working on is to use aleatoric box notation. I’ve downloaded a font recommended in another forum post but don’t like how the font doesn’t scale. I found a YouTube video where it shows me how to make aleatoric box lines which is great but when I place the line, it doesn’t like that there’s a dynamic at the beginning and makes it look like this:
It fixes if I move the dynamic one tic but then that looks incorrect and doesn’t sit well with my soul. Does anyone know what to do to fix this? The YouTube tutorial doesn’t address this or demonstrate this scenario.

You were using AleBoxes? In what way doesn’t it scale? It does respond to the point size you set, and you can use different letters for different height boxes.

It doesn’t scale in the way of, like, if I go in and add more notes or the stuff inside adjusts spacing the size of the box doesn’t follow suit, I have to go in and manually fix it so it fits. Sorry, I thought “automatically scale” was well implied.

This isn’t AleBoxes, this is using the line tool to make a “box top” and “box bottom”.
@aarynsrhmusic you should be able to go into engrave mode and drag up your “box bottom” part.

@mducharme Yeah, I know I can do that but I was curious if there was something more than that that I am missing.

Currently there is no native support for aleatoric boxes. Daniel addresses this from time to time: How to do reservoir boxes ( Aleatoric Boxes ) - #6 by dspreadbury
Perhaps this post may help: Aleatoric Boxes!

@sjanssens This comment did not help. I don’t think you read the original request for help but thank you for reconfirming the fact that Dorico does not natively support this. I’m asking about a work around utilizing custom lines that seems to be very popular that produces an odd result.
I don’t recall if you can turn off “avoid collisions” for a line (and don’t have Dorico open at the moment). If you can that might help. Otherwise you’ll probably just need to move it up in engrave mode.
