Music spacing in aleatoric environments is doubtless very demanding. I would like to know if there is any method less laborious than the one I applied.
It took me at least one hour to get this. I wonder if there is a more efficient way to accomplish this. – It would be a great help if all those handles for individual shifts (the round points) could be made visible at once - in fact one of Finale’s assets in this matter.
What would help in situations such as the OP presented would be some sort of setting where Dorico did not try to sync with the surrounding staves. Maybe there could be an option in the properties panel for localized time signatures to not coordinate with other staves.
I think SCORE was the only software that could handle this without a lot of manual tweaks.
Otherwise I would take @benwiggy 's advice and try to space the music further apart, although some manual adjustments will still be necessary.
Dorico’s default spacing would indeed have suggested an earlier system break. Since this would have caused other layout problems and since the final spacing is ok for me, I decided to squeeze these measures on a page.
The point is that there is a common grid for all staves, however in this case of non synchronized playing it is necessary to overrule it. We would need an individual spacing for each staff. I doubt this would technically be possible.
It would already be really helpful if we could select all individual handles (the round ones) at once. They become visible if all square handles are selected. But then they cannot be selected groupwise unless activated one by one.
This is what I used - the round handles provide exactly what you mention. But unlike Finale it is not possible to select a group of them (or even all) unless you activate them by dragging each one by one. Only then they remain active and accessible. This is the major problem.
Not really. I am speaking about independent rhythms (polyrhythms) not synchronized, where a “correct” spacing is counterproductive. Something like an independent spacing per staff. I am aware that this is most certainly not compatible with Dorico’s inner mechanisms. So a lot of tweaking will be indispensable. - Please note my upload in the previous posting.
