Aligning bar lengths when local time signatures are used

I have a combination of 6/8 and (local) 2/4 time signatures used in a project and I’m not sure how to get the bar lengths to align:

Is it a matter of how they are input in the popover? For some reason I’m struggling to find clear information on how to achieve this. Thanks!

As there are no links or suggestions on how to get them to align, I am interpreting it to mean it can’t be done… No?

Hi @ebrooks , you need some hidden local time signatures to do that, and some hidden tuplets. :

Depending on what is the most prevalent time signature, you can also invert the procedure:

2:4 vs 6:8 inverted.dorico (499.8 KB)

Thanks, Christian.

My main signature is 6/8. Is there any way to force the notes in the “hidden” TS bars - that now must be entered as tuplets - to appear as two groups of three 8ths notes?

@ebrooks
You need to make a manual split beam only for the first bar with hidden 2/4 TS, the consequent bars are hidden tuplets and will be divided as you desire.

Or you can create 2 hidden tuplets of 3:2e instead of one of 6:4e :

This works much better, thanks. Perhaps you might know if there’s a way to make this option automatic:

I keep ending up like this:

Engraving options/Tuplets.

I should you have you on speed-dial, thank you so very much for your help, you have no idea how much time I spent (well, lost, really) trying to figure this out on my own.

You are welcome @ebrooks! Glad I could help.

If you search online for “scoring notes metric modulation” you should easily find an (old but accurate) article about how to achieve this.
