All Automation GONE!

Yesterday I was mastering an audio track off mine, and did quite some automation. I automated volume, some EQ, aswell as the release time of my limiter. When I open the project today, ALL automation is gone. Everything.

I use Cubase 7, and have a Novation Impulse 61 attached to Cubase with Automap.

Does anyone have any idea what may have caused this? Now I’ll have to start over… I don’t want it to happen again.
Is there any way to restore the automation?

Try opening up one of the (the latest by date) backup projects saved in the project folder (i.e. xxxx.bak) and see if the automation is there. At least you might have only lost the last 20 minutes worth of work! Another case to always use ‘save as’ and rename as you go. I am assuming that this is not a system wide problem, of course.
