All my Macros have gone after crash

I have spent ages building a library of macros for all my workstream.

Cubase crashed the other day and after restart it seems to have reset the list and there are no macros anymore. They were linked to my midi remotes but the buttons on the remote are just showing as “missing”.

I have searched my system but can’t find them - assume they are some sort of xml file.

Starting to panic a bit as this is years of tinkering that seems to have been erased!

Indeed it is. It is the “Key Commands.xml” located in %appData%\Roaming\Steinberg[your Cubase Version]. The way you describe it, seems to me like your file has been overwritten by a default one.

Now, if you are for example on CB13 but you still have CB12 installed, you will still have a version of this file there, which may hopefully have the macros you want. That being said, since I understand that you’ve been working a lot on it, and since I understand you don’t have backups, maybe you have restore points for your windows? (I assume you are on windows, though you didn’t specify your OS). If this is the case, you can restore the file version from a previous restore point.

If the above don’t work, perhaps you’d want to open a ticket with Steinberg, perhaps they could help you somehow.

Ouuch…
The key commands are also stored with your profile. If you have stored different profiles over time it might be worth a try. Not sure though if the profile settings simply refer to the Key Commands.xml or if there is some sort of additional backup. Good luck!

Phew… solved that one, for some reason the profile manager had swapped my profile to another one. I moved back to a previous profile in the manager and they miraculously all appeared again!

Happy to hear that! It is a desaster losing all your carefully tuned preferences… That´s why I always have a safety backup somewhere else because that scares the sh** out of me…
