AMD Ryzen 9 x3950x amazing build

Would this suffice? It only has 2gb memory…
Gigabyte GeForce GT 1030 Silent Low-Profile

Might seem like a silly question, but how much improvement would you expect over a dual xeon 2.66 Nehalem machine (Mac Pro) in terms of VI polyphony and number of instances available?

Are those the connectors you need? DVI-D and HDMI port?

I mean, I would probably just go for something with more memory and more outputs. It’d be a bit more money, possibly overkill, but that’s probably what I’d do. This card might be fine though. I didn’t read through the specs of it.

Yes, I need a DVI-D (4k) and HDMI (1080p)

Just an update, I built my 3950x machine and all is well! I managed to put my trusty RME HDSP PCI card in (with pcie adapter) and a pcie firewire card.
So far so good although my temperatures are high, 50-55 idle.

i heard it for the first time thanks

Glad it’s working. What fans are you using?
I’m at 45-50’. Maybe you’ve other processes running?

I’m using a Noctua D-15 cpu cooler and fan and built in fans on my Fractal Meshify caes.

I have no trouble keeping most things cool with an Artic Liquid Freezer II 360, however keeping the combo South/Northbridge chip cool is a challenge, even though it has it’s own small fan and heat-sink, though the heat-sink is shared with the NVM drive. Not so much for audio, but for my occasional gaming, it’s often at 70 C when I’m done and I only play Civ 5 & 6 mostly. I’ve been playing with the fan settings and have it a little better under control but I’m thinking I might have to look into another fan or something.
Plus, using the liquid cooler keeps things nice and quiet. The downside is I ended up having to get a huge case to accommodate it (Corsair Obsidian 750D). It doesn’t even fit in the computer space on my desk (Omnirax Presto 4) where my previous full size tower fit nicely.

I just upgraded from 3900x to 3950x and TBH I’m very underwhelmed.

I had a few XL projects that were hiccuping from too many plugins with the 3900x and I was hoping the 3950x would give me some breathing room, nope, still hiccuping which means single core speed is the bottleneck, having extra cores doesn’t alleviate single core overload (too many plugins on a bus track?)

I may be able to throw a few extra plugins on other tracks but I suspect a higher single core speed 5XXX Ryzen (maybe even with less cores) would be more beneficial.

Yeah, if one core is maxxing out then four more probably won’t help much. The 5950x though doesn’t just run faster, it’s a new architecture. So there should be gains from that alone.

Thank you all for these really helpful remarks. I have a RME FireFace 400 and some issues with crashes and bluescreen. These might be due to the PCIe FireWire Card I am using. I am in investigation to get to know, which chipset is on my card. I already understood, that a TI Chipset should be most appropriate. Can anyone name or even recommend a specific product? Thanks in advance for any (further) helpful hints!
