Any workarounds for condensing multiple instruments held by 2 players?

I’m working on an arrangement where Flute 1 and 2 also play piccolos, and I’m only able to get the flutes to condense on the conductor’s score.

I know this is currently a limitation, but are there any workarounds that people have been able to use?

I don’t understand what you expect to condense if it’s just 1 player. It should display the player moving from the flute to piccolo, from piccolo to whatever he can play, and so on.

I must have not been clear, my bad; my arrangement includes two flute parts.

I see what you mean, I have no clue how to solve that unfortunately.

No worries! Exactly why I asked :yum:

As a work-around, you might consider making each flute and each piccolo a separate player. By judicious use of system breaks and hiding staves (manually, if necessary) is specific systems, you should be able to get both the flute passages and the picc passages to condense where appropriate. (Presumably you would never try to condense a flute and picc on the same staff.)
You would want to finesse the staff order:
Picc 1
Fl 1
Picc 2
Fl 2
and you would put Fl 1 & Picc 1 in the same part layout, as you would Fl 2 & Picc 2.

As I said , it is a work-around and may not work in your situation.

Oh! That’s much more straightforward than I was expecting… thank you!!

It is possible to condense both flutes and piccolos on the same staff as demonstrated by the following Dorico project:

I almost tagged you in this thread.

Oh I see, so you’re using one instrument with independent voice playback. Do I have that right?

I’m using one section player with independent voice playback, but doing this is quite complicated.

Regardless, thank you for showing me another workaround!!

Yes, but few folks would probably want to becasue of the different transpositions.

(As I read it, that was not the challenge @Musicombo was posing in the original post.)

I was not trying to condense a flute with a piccolo. Instead, I was demonstrating that it is possible to condense two flutes and separately condense two piccolos on the same staff using one section player with two section divisions, each of which has one voice for a flute and a different voice for a piccolo:

Interesting workaround, but it doesn’t solve the lack of automated text to change the instrument… so all in all, it’s more or less the same amount of work than with the usual workaround.
